I am a first time cruiser and my husband and I choose the Princess Grand for next January, 2001. This is for our 40th birthdays and my
parents have graciously volunteered to take our two kids for the week.
I was told that the earlier you book the better the prices. I have obtained various quotes from the internet and some local travel agents (which look at me nuts when I say next January). They all range from the brochure price to $100 below are above. When I ask about early incentives, they say their aren't any. Any suggestions, advice, should I wait or book now?

Book now. You can then monitor the rates, and if they drop, your travel agent can then get you the lower rate. Really! Even if it means a refund. It doesn't make sense, but that's the way it works with cruises.

Good travel agents will monitor the rates for their customers and then let the customers know if they drop.

I am not sure if you are checking with the right variety of TA. We leave next weekend for the Grand and we booked it last year in Feb., before we left on last Januarys cruise I had all the prices for this Jan so we could discuss it while onboard our cruise.
During the past year while we waited for our cruise we had a price reduction, some cabins had two, and then we all got upgraded to mini-suites, and this has never happened to me before. If you would like the e-mail and phone number of my cruises only TA, I will bglad to supply them. asoowal@email.com

Good point, asoowal. It sounds like dawn hasn't checked with a good cruise-only TA yet. Another clue is that the prices she's getting are only $100 below brochure rate.

Dawn, I have a great TA too, who deals with cruise clients all over the country and is highly recommended. Email me if you'd like her web address or phone number so you can compare prices.

Welcome Dawn:

I think you can do much better than $100.00 of the brochure rates. Have you come across any of the agency sites that offer an additional 10% off the published or their lowest rates? I believe this site does just that. There are others too - - Check out the Frommers site for cruise consolidators.

You might also determine if the cruiseline is offering any regional discounts from your gateway city for the week or weeks you are planning to book. This will also save you some $$$.

We are sailing on the Grand in two weeks and booked our trip three months ago. We got an excellent deal using the above mentioned methods. GOOD LUCK and happy shopping!
