Just wanted to hear from any RCCL repeat cruisers. As a silver member, are there any special perks that I can look forward to? Does it really pay to let the cruise line know that you have travelled on their line previously?

Why would you keep it a secret? Did you walk off with some towels? :-).

Seriously, I don't know about RCCL but other Lines give 'perks' for repeat cruisers

I've cruised on Princess quite a few times and the special perks I've received are alumni lapel pins, and invitations to the captain's cocktail party for repeat passengers. In addition, they send a periodical newsletter and advertisements about special cruise deals for alumni. In spite of these deals, my cruise agent has been able to get just as good, sometimes better prices regardless of my alumni status. The same goes for HAL. Radisson offers an additional 5% off all cruise prices for alumni. It's always beneficial to let the cruise line know that you've sailed with them before.....you never know what bonus they may give you!

I have sailed with RCI three times now. I think the perks you are looking for are probably upgrades. The answer is no. I got one on my last cruise by asking if there were any cabins left. After being told that the cruise was sold out. I rechecked just prior to the sailing. I had booked an inside cabin on the main deck. By paying $200:00 I received a small balcony suite on D deck. This is only because I had sailed with them before.
Good Luck
Toby

Don't know about RCCL but some lines have special check in lines, a cocktail party, newsletters, and deals on certain cruises.

My experience is same as previous reply from Gizmo.
Most lines automatically grant you free "frequent cruiser" membership after 1st cruise but Celebrity charges $25/couple upon application.
Some (ie: HAL) extend special recognition (awards) according to number of cruises.

RCCL offers the best perk of them all for 6 time repeaters. VIP boarding! You don't have to wait in line to get on board. It makes you feel important. On top of that, gift shop discounts, pins, robes, brochures and 10 to 20 percent off on your next cruise. The best party on a 7 day cruise is the repeaters party on RCCL. What bothers me is they provide you an invitation, but then they don't check it at the door.

I thought that Diamond members (10+ cruises) got prefrential boarding. If you can get it now at the Platinum level (5-9 cruises) better for us.

I didn't notice anything special about the Silver membership, other than the Cocktail party and the quartely magazine. The coupons are okay. If you find a good price you can usually still use the coupon to get another 50 to 200 dollars off depending on the value of the coupon and it's restrictions.

My last trip on Voyager had over 1500 repeaters.

Tonan try this for answers:

Thanks MagnmPI! I signed up recently for the Crown and Anchor membership (and got the silver along with membership info/"priviledges") for the first cruise we did. I don't imagine much is done for passengers who are just silver members!

I was wondering if it would possibly help us in any way for our second cruise since we booked run of ship. Secretly hoping we'll get a half decent cabin!

Thanks MagnmPI
I stand corrected. Yes, 10+ cruises for Diamond members.
I've got 4 to go. Seems like an awful lot.
I think a lot of people who go to the repeaters party don't belong there. If they would only check the invitation that they send you.....

On my first cruise I booked a cabin on the tween deck on the Majesty of the Seas and got that cabin. On my second cruise on the Enchantement of the Seas I booked run of the ship and got an inside cabin on "B" deck(lowest). Like you I had hoped for an upgrade. I did get one, but I had to ask for it. They moved me to an outside cabin still on 'B' deck. It was great. On my third cruise on the Grandeur of the Seas, I had booked an inside cabin on the Main deck.
If you read my posting earlier you will see that I got an upgrade, again by asking for it. If you take the route of asking for it. Remember to remind them that this is not your first cruise with them and you will sail with them again as this is your favorite cruise line but could you find me another cabin as I am claustophobic in the small inside cabin. Sometimes your TA can get you an upgrade but don't hold your breathe waiting for RCI to do it for you.

When we first went cruising, the repeaters party on the S/S AMEIKANIS, I think it was that one.
It was leased by Costa at the time.
Our first repeaters party was very
small, it was in the library and we
got the usual champagne toast and some nice items from the captain. I think it was a nice silver tray of
the FEDERICO C and a wallet with the
line's logo. With so many repeaters these days. Those kind of perks are
pretty much gone. Unless things have
changed with Costa, when we sailed on the COSTA ALLEGRA in '93, we got a photo taken with the captain and it was given to us at dinner the last night of the cruise. This captain was also on the COSTA RIVERIA and he remembered us. That says alot. Now when we go to a repeaters party on other lines, they
want you to pay for the photo with the captain. And with photos costing
$7.00 a pop, we just let it go.

Hey Toby when did you ask for the upgrade...was it during embarkation or was it weeks prior to your trip. Did you speak to the port supervisor and if so was there a line or a long wait?

Ascendancy,
My wife also thought that the repeaters party was crashed...it's not too hard to get in since they don't check. I think some people get in innocently because they see a line forming and just hop in.

I like Princess' lapel pins. You get your first one on your second cruise and you move up the "ranks" as you go. And then they start to give out china but I think that's after alot of trips.

Dambrose: - Hi - The only time you get a free picture on HAL is during the repeaters party, when they take a group photo of the medal holders and sometimes there are so many you can't find yourself in the picture. The crappy champagne and drinks are free and they serve lovely hors'douves (sp) but you're lucky if you can get any. Last time my husband and I skipped the Captain's Cocktail party, actually, walked in shook hands, and walked out the other door. Another time we skipped it altogether and when we got to the dining room table found that the Hostess was sitting with us and she remarked "I didn't see you coming through the line"!!!!!
Those pictures are getting far too expensive. I won't buy anymore.
