Hi! Between Celebrity, RCCL, and Carnival which rates best in customer satisfaction. Are there any surveys on the subject?

Welcome aboard LindaBeatrice!

I'm sure that you will find a separate set of staunch supporters for each cruise line that you have asked about and rightfully so. Each cruise line caters to a special segment of the population. They target this group of individuals by tailoring itinerary and on board programs etc. to meet their needs on the whole.
Each group will tell you that their cruise line offers the best in their opinion. I think that it would be a tough call for anyone to make as they may not have traveled on all lines nor might the lines cruise techniques have satisified their individual wants and needs.

Good Luck on your quest.

There have been lots of surveys and there are lots of opinions on web sites like this one...but I don't think there is an answer to your question.

All the top cruise line satisfy many of their customers, but we all have different tastes. For example EVERYONE rates Celebrities food as EXCELLENT...except me! Now is everybody else wrong or maybe I've just got weird opinions?

It's a bit like me asking which automobile is the best to buy? Each Cruise line targets its product at a different audience. For example, are you young (at heart) or more mature? Do you want fun (Carnival) or a slightly more sedate and sophisticated experience (Celebrity)?

I think Royal Caribbean had the best return customer statistics out of the three.

Perhaps the best way to determine the answer to your question, would be to find out who has the highest return, or past passenger repeat factor; amoungst those that have multi cruise line experiences. I get really suspicious of those that rave about 1 cruise line, and yet have never tried others for a real comparison. But, I don't know if anyone has access to such statistics. The reviews and ratings seem to give the edge to Celebrity, and yet I've travel with them only twice, but Carnival 4 times, as well as many others. C Trail and Malcolm are correct; just read back and you will find staunch defenders and critics of almost every cruise line! Read up for sure, but experience them to be sure!

I went on the Mercury from Celebrity last March, and I loved it! The food was outstanding and the crew was exceptional. It was my first cruise so I don't have anything to judge against. I am going on the Grand Princess this March, and I hear it is in the same league as Celebrity. Good luck in you research!

In Cruise Travel magazine dated February 99 with a followup in April 99 the repeat-passengers percentage is listed. The magazine stated that the percentage varies by vessel and itinerary. The following figures were provided by company spokespeople.

Princess 50%
Holland 40%
Carnival 40%
RCI 35 to 40%
Celebrity 30 to 35%
NCL 25%

In our latest Cruise Survey (we've done this every spring since 1995) here's how the cruise lines rated. Keep in mind this is the opinion of Internet users who visit this site and did not specifically ask about satisifaction among repeat cruisers.

In the category of Best Cruise Line, the top 10 cruise lines were:

#1 Royal Caribbean International
#2 Holland America Line
#3 Princess Cruises
#4 (tie) Carnival Cruise Line
#4 (tie) Celebrity Cruise Line
#6 Norwegian Cruise Line
#7 Crystal Cruise Line
#8 Cunard Line
#9 Costa Cruise Line
#10 Renaissance Cruises

In the category of Favorite Cruise Ship, the top 10 cruise ships were:

#1 Norway (Norwegian Cruise Line)
#2 Century (Celebrity)
#3 Statendam (Holland America)
#4 Grand Princess (Princess)
#4 Sun Princess (Princess)
#6 Veendam (Holland America)
#6 Legend of the Seas (Royal Caribbean)
#8 Enchantment of the Seas (Royal Caribbean)
#8 Grandeur of the Seas (Royal Caribbean)

Statistics provide an interesting guide, but I do not personally give them too much weight. If I had 'best time of my life' with a ship/cruise line..I would be unlikely to use them again!

Why ever not you may ask? I know that trying to repeat an excellent experience would spoil it for me. I'd be looking for a different experience next time. I would probably pick a different ship/line/itineary next time around. For me, variety is the spice of life!

A friend of mine done the QE2's Transatlantic trip and though that it was fantastic! They repeated the trip a year later and found it to be a disappointment. Other folks have done the trip ten times or more and still love it.

My point is that we are all different.

Malcolm...I feel the same way. Our Western Caribbean cruise on Celebrity's Mercury was PERFECT in every way.I think it's hard to compare the food. It all depends on what you order. Celebrity has very good quality ingredients. They spend more on their food budget than any other line, except maybe Crystal. The beef was fantastic. We took the Mercury to Alaska the year before, and didn't like the cruise as well. Different entertainment, different staff. The computers were messing up the whole week, playing havoc with people's accounts. Alaska was perfect! I am a little nervous about our next cruise. I went to Mexico on the Elation and left with a VERY unsatisfying feeling. We are going on Celebrity's new ship Millennium I. I have not tried other lines, so I can not comment about those. But I like to try new ships and itineraries.

Mercy, I too had a good experience with Celebrity's Mercury, cruising to Alaska in 1998. However, I am very unlikely to go back to Alaska or travel on the Mercury again. I may not even use Celebrity again? I might try a RCL or Cunard cruise next time...who Knows!

Malcolm...you raise a good point there, with which we partly agree. I say that because with us normally the itinerary comes first, followed by the ship and cost. We were only saying recently that we've just about run out of places to go with Princess. Fortunately, our current favorite ship, the Marco Polo and her new running mate the Crown Odyssey (another ship we like) have a whole new bunch of cruises..enough to keep us going for a while.
About the only one we'd really have liked to do again, and unfortunately the last one is going right now, is the long Antarctic on the Marco Polo - a unique trip.....peter

gohaze - when you were on the Marco Polo to Antartica, was the Cruise Director a Welshman, David Lawton? He's an old friend and was up here in Toronto a few years ago giving us a talk on this cruise. Looked very interesting. He was with HAL for many years.
Boy are we having snow - it isn't supposed to stop until tomorrow afternoon. This is when I wish I was on a cruise.

gohaze - what a surprise. Steve was David's Asst. CD on our many cruises and they were good friends. Lost track of him after he got married and haven't seen or heard from him in years. Great singing voice - we always enjoyed listening to him.
