i found this:

"Now in 1998, more than 60 years later, we proudly announce hereby, that The White Star Line is back in business again. Founded in Switzerland and the United States of America as a proud member of GE-Group, we are willing and ready to play history in timetravelling. Announcing the reconstruction of the original "Titanic" by the year 2002, to finish the crossing of the North Atlantic and the happy arriving in New York."

from the i think official white star line page. True or not?

I've read this before a few years ago. After the sucess of the film, there were a number of projects to re-create a Titanic. However, it's easier to create a web site saying that you are building a replica Titanic, than it is to actually achieve it!

In other words...they are all unlikely to happen, including the 'White Star' one!

the name and trademark "White Star Line" is still owned by Cunard therefore read Carnival. If there is an official statement about White Star the announcement should come from London or Miami. Be careful, someone may be trying to get between the uniformed and their money.

Cunard still uses the White Star name, so I doubt very seriously they would agree to release it.

nathan, just out of curiosity, where is Cunard still referencing White Star Line? The only place I've seen it appears to be on their site, just above the thumbnail picture of the Queen Mary. I guess they still actively refer to it in their archive literature?

Which opens another interesting question: why hold onto an non-operating trademark unless there are plans of resurrecting it? Hmmmm...

They continually refer to "White Star Service" in their brochures, and on the covers for the onboard pictures they sell, it has the "Cunard White Star Line" logo, as well as all of their past logos. Also, I believe I read somewhere that the Caronia has a "White Star" bar onboard. I'm sure there are other areas they use it, but that's all I know off the top of my head.

Nathan....

I believe the White-Star name was reactivated
following the success of the movie TITANIC.
After the liner Britannic was retired, the
name disappeared from brochures and such.
I would not be surprised to see some of the old Cunard "sayings" such as "Getting There
Is Half The Fun" resurrected with the QM2.

Yes, Caronia has a bar called White Star
since the "redo" in '99.
