Bonny, firstly, I'm sure that she is a beautiful ship and you will have a great cruise!

However, I don't really like the look of her. She looks so similar to so many new ships, a box with a bow! In fact apart from the funnel she looks just like a member of the Carnival fleet, or even P&O ish, without the more attractive stern.

I think that some of the oldest Costa ships (the ones converted from freighters) are just about the most ugly ships afloat!

This is my idea of a ship:

Sorry, but you did ask for opinions!

Hmmm...Malcolm, if you refer to a pure marvel like the picture you posted, of course there's no comparison possible...

I was over at my mom's recently. She showed me a videotape of a more or less virtual reality tour of the Atlantica. From what I saw, this ship looks to be very impressive. The interior reminds me in certain cases of some of the old classic Italian liners like the Rex and Conte di Savoia. I'd consider her.

Although I didn't see COSTA ATLANTICA's interiors yet, I do agree with you BigUFan, more and more very modern cruise ships are, (well, not all however and not in all the rooms) for their interior fittings, very interesting in a technical, aesthetical and artistic view point. In general still too showy for me but they tend to appear more "class" than lot of other realizations in the last 20 years in my opinion and they try to recall the luxury side of The Great Maritime Tradition with valuable efforts and searches from architects and designers.
...well, later it will be time for exteriors too.
Bye.

Might improve it if they took off the temporary funnel and put on a real one.

I would appreciate it if someone on this page can reconcile the number of lifeboats, as shown in this photo, and those of similar floating housing projects, with the expected passenger loads.

Is there really a seat for all passengers and crew in the few lifeboats shown? Are they gigantic mini-ships in themselves?

What is the rationale that, in the event of a disaster - for example, fire or collision)-that makes a finite percentage of the boats unusable, (Andrea Doria comes to mind)? Or if there is any significant event that renders many boat stations unreachable?

I'm cautious and sceptical - and await reassuring word from these pages!!
