While simultaneously checking the best cruise page online and the Big Brother UK website, it occured to me that if I ever saw a Big Brother reunion cruise advertised, on any ship, I would be on it. As the show finished tonight I am going to need to find a new addiction - I am so going to miss Anna and Caggy! But anyway, what would be, as the title suggests, your ideal theme cruise and on what ship and where? Have any of you done a theme cruise? What are they like?

Paddy.

Hi Paddy, I don't like the idea of a theme cruise. I'm not sure if I would want the same thing for a full week! I do like the idea for theme nights, like the Caribbean night or the St Patricks night we had while we were on the Bolero during March break. As for a whole week it's not my idea of fun.

Paddy, on my recent cruise on the 'Black watch' we had some nautical lectures including subjects such as the 'Titanic'. So maritime history would get my vote, although I appreciate that this would not turn everyone one!

I did a couple of theme cruises on the Norway. All "Oldies" 50's and 60's music. I loved them . The entertainment was the best. They brought special groups on board, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Sam Moore from Sam & Dave, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Mary Wilson from the Supremes. There was a disk jockey on the fan tail every morning playing music, trivia games etc. I guess I am just a Doo Wop die hard!

My idea of a great theme is an exotic destination, e.g. Antarctica or many days at sea with good lecturers. Our next theme is going to be the Arctic next summer.

I would like to see a comedy act theme with several young stand up comedians mixed with some popular headlining comedians with Jay Leno as the master of ceremonies for the week.

I once went on regular cruise where 700 dealers & employees from John Deere had booked a cruise. They took over the entire second seating and like it or not the rest of the cruise felt like a theme cruise for John Deere. All my pictures seem to have something yellow and green on them. Even though it was overwhelming it was done in good taste and the group behaved.

Some friends of mine went on Oriana not realising that this was a sequence dance theme cruise. They said the dance floor was full of everyone sequence dancing in the evenings and they felt quite out of it. We are travelling on Aurora to New York next summer (freak waves permitting) and this is a classical music theme, I think we will really enjoy this one. If you are happy with the theme I am sure it will enhance the experience but if not I think it could well make you feel quite out of the swing of things. Now that they are becoming more popular I am sure people will check if there is a theme and what the theme is, but my friends were victims of pioneering stuff by P&O!

The more senior Brits love their Ballroom dancing. A lot took place on my recent 'Black Watch' cruise. Unfortunately, my wife and I don't have a clue how to do it

Sorry Bubbles, can't quite squeeze in another Aurora cruise this year, much as I would love to, and especially that one that takes in Venice. Ofcourse there are Classical Concerts on all P&O cruises, I guess on this particular one there will be more than usual.

Cheers
M.

Hello again Bubbles. I am back from the P&O classical music theme cruise to Venice. It was really good. Richard Baker brought a team of nine musicians and singers and there were daily concerts, I enjoyed them all.If you like the music of violin, cello , piano played live I am sure you will enjoy your cruise to N.Y.C...any further questions, just ask..Mark.

Welcome home Southampton and what weather you have come back to!! Glad to hear that the theme was enjoyable. Did the theme take over most of the evening entertainments? I do enjoy live classical music but I want to disco too!!

Bubbles, the music took place in several lounges but never the disco, Masquerades. which alas was pretty empty every night on our cruise as the average age of passenger was about eighty....Carmens was mostly given over to ballroom dancing...youll love it..lol.

OK so no zimmer frames in the disco but we are going in Sept next year just at the tail end of the main holiday season so hopefully with loads of sea days people will be ready to dance the night away - what do you think? On Arcadia and Oriana the disco was really full every night when we sailed those were Med trips in May, so was RCI (that was July in the Med) but on our recent Alaska, Regal Princess trip on only one night did everything come alive in the disco but we were warned that Alaska usually attracts an older crowd. We usually have to take hols at main hol times so there are usually younger people and families when we travel. However, we are going for a land hol in Tenerife in March next year and I am expecting that to be a much older crowd than we are used to as we normally go over New Year.
