I thought a ship flying the U.S. flag had to have its hull built in the U.S.. Is this correct?
Where was the Nieuw Amsterdam built?

Obviously not. She was built in France - Chantelier de l'Antique or something like that. I can't remember the exact name or spelling. I just heard that the Norwegian ship that is to be home based in Honolulu is getting around the Jones Act by going to a small French island every week.
Dambrosi - my friend said she would try and get a postcard for you. If she does and sends it to me I will send it to Joe to forward on to you. This same friend was on the Nieuw Amsteram last week when they stopped in Honolulu on their way back from Sydney, She said it was weird being on the ship with no passengers, no artwork or antiques and nothing in the shops. Almost like a ghost ship.

Sympatico, I can't take credit for that photo, if you look closely, you'll see me sipping a drink on the aft deck watching the fireworks John
I've been watching this Hawaii thing since I have a group going in February 2002. Right now we are able to do 11 days on Vision of the Seas for less money than a 7 day from American Hawaii, United States Lines, or NCL. Go figure.
