"In a dramatic departure from previous television advertising campaigns, Carnival Cruise Lines will launch a series of new 30-second "reality-based" commercials featuring actual guests in real-life situations talking about their "Fun Ship" cruise experience."

Guests will also be shown getting blind drunk, being sick and falling overboard, while teenagers enjoy themselves terrorising the ship in packs.

(Only Joking Carnival fans! The first paragraph is real anyway!)

I love all you Carnival bashers - you need to go on a Carnival cruise and find out they are just as nice as all the others. In fact we have seen more drunks and many, many, many more unruly kids on Royal Caribbean than on Carnival. How about the Grandeur losing electrical power and the woman missing off the Enchantment (both incidents happened in the same week), no one seems to pay any attention to it because its Royal Caribbean, if it was Carnival everyone would be downing them. Do yourself a favor - try it before you knock it.

I'm ROTFLMAO .I feel sorry for both Kathy Lee and Carnival, cause they "don't get any respect". I will sail with Carnival some day, so I won't "knock" them til I'v tried them.

I have never cruise Carinval and don't bash them. My wife's sister and her husband have cruised on them without complaint, but one of the couples I regualrly cruise with had a bad experience and refuse to go with them again.

I have had 5 cruises between Commodore, NCL, and RCI and never had a bad experience. My 6th cruise with be in February on Princess. I guess I'm making a tour of the various lines.

However, I doubt I'll be on Carnival because its reputation has preceeded it. I'm not the partier that has long been represented by the Carnival name. At 52 years, I'm more the of the HAL reputation type. I'll probably try them soon.

I've never had a problem with unruly kids, but then I always cruise when they are in school. I don't cruise during school breaks or the summer. Besides, it's nice to get away from the Michigan winters.

10K - I'm not a partier either (57) but their wasn't any wild stuff going on the Carnival ships we've been on either, in fact they were pretty sedate. Unfortunately they can't shake the reputation they had for years. They have changed, their rules are stricter than the other cruiselines. And we do not cruise during holidays or school vacations either, usually in Jan, to get away from the dreary Cincinnati weather, but last year end of Jan, we had over 300 unruly kids on the ship that ruined everyones good time. It was a disaster. Enjoy your Princess cruise, they are my favorite.

Jwine, I'm really not a 'Carnival basher'at all, in fact I'm sure that Carnival provides a first class product. After all they could hardly be any more successful!

Shamefully, I was just using 'stereotype', which is probably completely untrue, to get a cheap laugh! I would have made the same joke if RCL had launched 'reality-based' commercials.

(Well done Mercy, 500 posts!)

We are going on our third Carnival cruise on Dec. 25. I'm starting tto get excited now that it's getting close. I hope it's as good as our second Carnival cruise, that one really turned me around on Carnival. Immensely better than our first cruise on Carnival in 1994.

At the ripe old age of 49, I agree with you that I'd rather sail with HAL, Princess or Celebrity(tried them all). However, I still enjoy cruising with NCL,RCCL, and sooner or latter, Carnival. All these lines have something wonderful to offer, just in different areas. I hope I live long enough to try all the major lines

I saw the new Carnival commercial last night and I must say that I thought it was cleaver. People have so many objections to cruises, particularily men, so it was good to just come out and crush some of those objections straight out.

Having done 2 Carnival cruises, as well as 10 others, I can honestly say there's nothing wrong with them, as long as you understand what you're getting, and make sure you get your money's worth.

That said, didn't we discuss here some suggestions for Carnival advertisements? Some such as, "Two cruises for the price of one...unless the ship doesn't break down."

Hi Sympatico, Geno-R, Malcom, Joe
and all good cruisers.
We've been moving and that's why you
have'nt heard a stitch from us. Plus, we just got off the FANTASY 4 day cruise this past Thurs.
The only reason why I don't like Carnival getting too big, is that things can go wrong. It scares me to
see how companies get so big and then all of a sudden something happens that nobody ever expected.
By the way, the cruise was good, had
2 helpings of Escargot, it was out of this world.
Everything was great on the trip. The only problem is trying to get a
table for just both of us. We nearly
got stuck with a table for 8 and that is too much :-(. We enjoy each
other's company, plus being in retail, I deal with people a lot. So
we like to be by ourselves. It seems
Carnival does'nt understand that most passengers, husbands and wives
just want to be with each other.
By the way, anyone who sailed on the
TROPICALE, I know you said you did
Geno-R, Mr. Z, is one of the Maitre'd's in the Jubilee Dining Room. And I thought we read somewhere that Carnival is going to bring another Big One up to Canaveral. Any truth to that rumor?
We also saw 3 of Premier's liners in
Freeport, they are being very well maintained. The engines on the OCEANIC were being run at full blast. They were also hosing down the superstructure. There were 3 people on the Port Bridge Wing, I have no idea what they were doing.
SO how has everyone else been?

I have taken one Carnival cruise and that was enough for me. Jwine I disagree with you entirely.

I did enjoy the ballroom dancing on Carnival though. Yes. The ship and the room was very good. Food and service, ahhhhhh average.

Drunks usually don't bother me, but on this cruise there were so many of them, you couldn't avoid them.

Ascendancy - have never experienced such things on Carnival. Cabin sure are a lot nicer than RCI and as far as the food, thought it ever as good as RCI, Celebrity and most definetely better than HAL. Princess still is my favorite.

I took the Carnival cruise 3 years ago.
All the time I was wishing I could jump ship
whenever I saw another cruise line.

I guess we saw more of the younger drinkers. And when I say younger, I mean under age! They get loud and profane. At least the old farts drink with dignity. They don't have to try and demonstrate the effects of liquor.

I'm not saying RCL is totally great, there are better cruise lines out there. We are comfortable with RCL.

When I say just average quality of food I'm also talking about variety. On the Carnival cruise I didn't get Lobster, caviar and crab claws. RCL I do. Carnival has two types of dinner rolls, RCL has different ones every night based on the theme of the food they are serving. You can even look at the lettuce they serve. Carnival serves iceberg, Royal serves romaine. OK. I could go on. It's the little things that sets them apart. Most people don't know see these little things like I do. Most people don't care. I do.

Dance floor space is at a premium on Carnaval. On RCL, it seems, you have most of the floor to strut your stuff.

I see more tuxs and fewer kids on RCL. Two more reasons. Maybe I just had one real bad cruise on Carnival. I don't know, but I'm not going to pay another five grand to see if it was a fluke.

We cruised on Carnival 4 years ago and I must admit that I could count the number of intoxicated individuals that we encountered on one hand. As far as under age intoxicated people go, we can't say that we saw any. Their sail and sign cards indicate that they are under age so they had to have parents buying them drinks. I'll bet that there are kids in your living area that get into the odd bottle of juice either with or without their parents approval, but you don't get discusted with that and move. As far as young people go there was no problem. The odd youngster might cry during a meal, but what can you do, we all probably cried during a meal or two when we were tired from a long day. Matter of fact I know some older people who fall asleep during a meal, boring, no just old and getting more and more tired by the day. What does RCL do, tape the kids mouths shut, hide the children that are having a cruise, and I might say paying for it, at least their parents. When on vacation I don't let what others do interfere with my pleasure. I don't dwell on it, I just keep going with all of the wonderful things that are happening. When we planned our vacation, we wanted a family vacation that all of us could enjoy. We went to a seminar from RCL where they assurred everyone there that they would not see the children on the cruise as they basically hid them during the day and would not let them enjoy the ship, or the cruise as that might upset some people. We immediately ruled out cruising with RCL if that is the way they handle their passengers. This is not an exclusive club nor should it be.

We thoroughly enjoyed the vacation on the Imagination and the food was out of this world. We go out for special and not so special occassions about ten times a year
and spend between 80 and 110 dollars for the meal for my wife and myself so maybe I'm not a gourmet dinner but I can certainly discern between good and mediocre food and the food that we were served on the ship was definately on par if not better than some of the food at the establishments that we frequent.

Ascendency, You must have went on Carnival right before the change. We went on the Tropicalin 1998 and had a great time. Our kids Sail and Sign card was punched with a hole indicating they were not oldenough to drink. The food was fantastic, plenty of Lobster (which was a big improvement over our 1994 Carnivalcruise). The staff went overboard (LOL) tomake sure allthe passengers had a good time.

CTrail, glad to hear you enjoyed the Imagination,we are going on her next month>. I can'twait!

CTrail - sure wish RCI had hid the kids on the Voyager last Jan. They were everywhere, bars, casinos, shows, bingo, Viking Crown Lounge at 1:30am. They must have changed their policy, hope they change it back, because it was horrible. Normally I am like you and don't let things bother me but you could not get away from these unruly kids and dinner (late seating) was a fiasco. Our next cruise is on the Inspiration in Jan. Hope it's as nice as our cruise on the Destiny a couple of years ago.
