Hello everyone,

I always hear stories about how people have gotten really good deals on certain cruises.

I would like to here from everyone. I'm
sure some of you have good deals to tell us
about.

So, what is the cheapest cruise/best deal
you have ever gotten ?

Best regards,

John B.

Cheapest cruise I ever went on was the Caribe I, when I was a stowaway back in 1984 from St Thomas to San Juan. I planned it out weeks in advance, met up with the Caribe I in St Thomas, snuck aboard, found an empty cabin, and cruised over to San Juan...This was of course in my more wild years...I would never do that now. I was desperate to go on a cruise, and I never quite had the money to go on a cruise. That was my first cruise on a cruise ship! It was just a short cruise though from about 3:00pm to 10:00pm but to me it was a thrill!!

My worst cruise was on the Eugenio Costa in 1996:the cabins was microscopic, the service terrible and the cuisine disgustive, particularly for the italian passengers. The best thing that Costa cruises has done in the last few years is sell its older ships(but when will they put out of service the horrific Costa Riviera?).The old ships haven't a future.Exceptions:Norway-Rembrandt and Oceanic(the last two if refurbished could easily compete with the QE2 and the Caronia).Generally the chartered ships offer the worst cruises

I wonder how many discussions regarding cruise cost are going on on the Norwegian Dream right now, considering that a few people got it (12 nights Barcelona -> San Juan) for $9 per cabin right at the end, and a lot more were getting it for under $100 the last couple of weeks.

Two years ago, HAL's fax machine didn't connect with my TA's fax machine and I didn't know my cruise had been cancelled and replaced. I found out about it three months later when I visited HAL's website.

I was upset and not a happy duck over that one.

HAL bent over backwards, as my TA put it, and very graciously took rrrrreally good care of me. When I figured out the cost of the accomodations, air, etc, and subtracting what I actually paid out of pocket, the "paper" result was that HAL "paid" me $800 to take the cruise.

Four years ago, 7 day on the Noordam, main deck/outside $499.00 per person including all taxes. I believe we went out of Tampa. We also used some of my frequent flyer miles so that took care of the flight.

So far the best deal, and our cheapest cruise, has been on Royal Viking Sun. If you take upgrades, on-board credits, etc. into account we ended up paying around 12% of the brochure fare.

I just got back from it. 13 day transatlantic, Genoa to New York onboard the new Celebrity Millennium. I paid $1349.00 US per person INCLUDING airfare from San Francisco for a Cat 5 outside cabin. I was very satisfied and will be posting a full review in the near future.

Hi everyone,

I forgot to tell about my deal !

In August of 1999, my family and I
went on the last T/A (East to West)
crossing of the Norway.

We paid $1026 P/P for a S-2 cat.
My girls were only $399.( 4 of us )

Wow, what a deal, and a trip that none
of us will ever forget !!

Kbozman.

I've seen some cruise deals in the UK recently for £299 to £349 GBP, which is approximately $420 to $480! These prices include a weeks full board cruise in the Med., based on a superior outside cabin and flights to Europe! It's just too good to be true!

Needless to say, I've not tried one

My cheapest was on QE2 in March [or April]
1974. The ship went dead in the water, we
were rescued by MS Sea Venture, returned to
Bermuda, flown home, received a full refund,
and a reduction on another QE2 cruise.

My other cheap one was on the SS Ryndam from
NYC to Rotterdam in 1954......under $200.00
for a VERY rough 9 day crossing.....nice
little ship, but could she ever pitch and
roll!!

7 days NY to Bermuda Oct. 1992 on the Nordic Prince for $89/person. We were originally booked in Sept. but recieved a call from the TA asking if we wanted to volunteer to take the cruise at a later date as the cruise was overbooked. Received a full refund and were booked on the Oct. sailing. Our only cost was for port charges ($89/person). On top of the great deal, we still received free roundtrip bus transportation from Delaware to the pier in NYC.

Royal Viking Sky @ $250. In December of 1983 the RVS went aground in Puerta Plata's Harbour. Royal Viking ran the same schudule the next March and offered it to the "victims" for $250 + the cost of air.

One the return a bunch of passengers that were re-peating started to yell to the Capt. "Hard to Port, Hard to Port' But this time we got in safely

In '81 we took our first cruise on the Volendam - Ship was not at the dock in Miami as they had run into very bad seas off Hattaras, so we were put up on the Statendam until they transferred us over to the Volendam late in the evening - OPEN BAR on Stat! Misses two ports of call, Bonaiare & Aruba. This cruise cost us $1118.Cdn including air, I believe - forgot HAL was accepting Cdn $'s at par with US at that time - now it is a mark up of about 50%. Then we put into Curaco for 2 days (great place to be)as they were retubing the boilers and had run into trouble. Our compensation was 25% cash refund or 40% towards another cruise - we took the cruise, which would be our second and haven't stopped since. Those were the two cheapest cruises we ever took. Then the bottom fell out of the Cdn. $
There are still crew working on HAL ships who were on that first cruise with us.

Yes you are probably right to um but as you know in UK even though all the cruise brochure prices are discounted we hardly ever get the great deals they get in US our tour operators all seem to operate a cartel and will go down to the same level and no-one seems to go further. To me this was a good deal compared to the brochure price which was around £1800. If only I could get a freebie, I think the only way I will is by booking on all the maiden voyages, hoping they are cancelled and I qualify for a full refund along with a free cruise ascompensation. Of course, that will backfire if they all go ahead and I am expected to pay for them.

Hi Malcolm, lunchtime and I am surfing!! Yes, I have looked at Teletext, it normally gives you a tel number to ring for specialist companies and I never seem to fit the best price criteria! My husband would say that it is me and that I am looking for champagne at beer prices, but why not

My cheapest cruise was in 1982:

Dec. 5th - Dec. 22nd,

starting Genova and going to Dakar, Senegal and back to Genova.

TS "Fedor Shaljapin", Cabin B 52, inside, 4 berth, cheapest category.

Price: German Marks 995 for 17 days.

That was an price of about 55 Marks a day
including taxes and full service.

The ship was nice (former Cunard Liner "Franconia", the food and service was very
low quality)

But i was 24 years old, and my wife 22 and
we had at this time big interest in cruising and very low budget to pay for it...

About 25+ years ago the Canberra spent one season in the Canberra. They ran a special called the "Friendly Foursome." It was an eight day cruise and cost $129 per person for four in a large room. We had a group of 24 people in six rooms and had a blast. The food was so so, the entertainment was excellent, and we had loads of fun especially since we were much younger then and able to ride with the punches which included roaches, but I guess that is why we only paid $129.
