My favourite one is Costa cruises particularly for the wonderful Costa Romantica.I like also Festival and particularly the intimate Azur.In the USA I retain that NCCL and RCCL are the best(both companies offer excellent assistance to the italian passengers).

Overall I'd say Princess, but have enjoyed all 23 cruises, each line and ship has it's own personality and it's nice to change around, that way you get to experience new things everytime you cruise. I think we would be bored always cruising the same line, they repeat the meals, shows, etc. I enjoy new experiences.

Hubby and I are HAL devotees - "if it aint broke don't fix it" - a HAL cruise is like 'going home' there's that comfortable, familiar feeling the moment you step on board. Most times you'll meet an old friend! - what more can you ask!

Every once in a while we try a different cruiseline..just for comparison sake and we RUN back to HAL..After having tried Princess several times, Celebrity, Carnival sort of (the cruise was cancelled fourteen hours after we had all boarded and the Destiny never left port...then they threw us off ...don't think I'll be back there anytime soon) and one time on RCl, IMO none come close to HAL.
We're now looking forward to bookings we have for Volendam, Maasdam and Amsterdam.

This looks like a HAL love-in. FWIW..we've done 2 trips on HAL and were NOT impressed, so won't be bothered going on there again.
Currently our favorite is without a doubt Orient Line. No one else has their range of itineraries and the ships (real ships) are an ideal size, besides having very good food and service.

Which ever line I am booked on! Someone e-mailed me a note and I believe it to be true for me. "I have never had a bad cruise just some I would not want to repeat".

I guess if I had to choose an all time favorite it would be HAL.

The late Premier-may she rest in peace.

I only like classic ships! The service was good, [blue hull ships only] price was right, never had a bad meal on board. I liked the friendly informal atmosphere.

Had the Canberra sale gone thru, and not had the Big Red Jalopy II, [she greatly contributed to P's demise], I would have exclusively cruised the Canberra and the Rembrandterdam.

I am sailing the Norway in March and will reserve judgement on NCL until then.

HOLLAND AMERICA LINE...keep going back to them each time we try another line. Started sailing with HAL in 1956 and think we have only had perhaps one cruise we could say was not a good one. Looking forward to my 64th on HAL in January on the World Cruise!

WOW 64 cruises the joy of living in the states.
its much harder and more expensive sruising from Australia.

We enjoyed Celebrity and star cruise lines and are hoping to try another in july . Maybe Orient or princess. I agree with jwine each cruise line does have its own personality but its up to you to have the good time.

So far Cunard (3 in the last 3 years, 1 more on "open booking" in 2002) but haven't tried any others - yet. Booked on the NORWAY for next month and again next September for the "final voyage."

I like Cunard because:

1. the ships are different but the feeling's the same (you're a guest, not a customer.)
2. both QE2 and CARONIA are classic ships with beautiful lines, great upkeep and plenty of room.
3. the food's great.
4. they don't try to "nickle and dime" you to death.
5. your fellow passengers are a classy lot, by and large.
6: great prices for what you get, so far...
7. they speak "British" not "English" but I'm a quick study

They take seamanship seriously and the UK has strict rules regarding seaworthiness for ships with UK registration.

And so far, we've not been disappointed.

Bostom, you speak wisely and well.

I only have recent experience of Airtours (Sunbird) and Costa (Classica) so I'm not really qualified to call my favourite yet. (We'll refer it to the Supreme Court and see if they can decide the final few votes).

But if I had to decide right now, my vote would go to Airtours. Relaxed, friendly, and surprisingly more traditional (aka British) than you'd expect at this end of the market.

after several cruises on several different lines, I have to say that HAL is tops for us, maybe in our younger years we would have prefered a more "lively" ship, but now the operative words have to be "rest and relaxation", just adore the wonderful service on HAL, IMHO it can`t be beat, right now, I`d take any cruise to get away from this cold, but only 2 weeks to go!!!!

COSTA, from the wonderful days of the FLAVIA, Oh how
we miss that ship. Premier, how sad they did
that line wrong the last 3
years........Chandris, the
gallant GALILEO. The original Carnival liners.
Those were real ships.

Hmm...well I don't think that I will ever have a favourite cruise line!

First of all I am unlikely to cruise more than once a year. Each time that I do,I pick a different ship, different itinerary and a different cruise line. If I ran out of cruise lines, ships and itineraries, which is unlikely, I'd give up cruising - rather than completely repeat myself!

I don't want a ship to feel too comfortable and too familiar. I want it to be a 'new' experience each time and feel exciting. I want to explore new public rooms and the deck spaces. I want to try new styles of food and entertainment.

If I really had a fantastic time on a particular ship/line I definately would NOT try to repeat it. That would spoil it.

I suspect that in reality, I would regard one line as having the best food, another the best entertainment and another my favourite ship etc. But until I've cruised all the major lines, I'm not in a position to judge.
