We are going on a cruise March 11 on the Sensation. We have wondered about bringing some alcoholic beverage with us. We don't want to bring a lot just some vodka. We don't know if this is okay to do or not. We were on the Bolero last year and lots of people had brought their own booze. They used plastic cups or travel cups and went to their cabin to fill the cups up. We spent quiet a bit of money especially the last couple of days on drinks. We are trying to keep our costs down. I'd love to hear from anyone whop has any ideas. We don't want to get into anything illegal.

Just carry it on in your carry-on. If it makes it threw the metal detection, you get on board find some OJ and you are in business. No one has ever gone through my carry-on before boarding. No one.

We always take some on in our carry-on. When we run out, we get more at the next port of call. We took water bottles ashore and filled them with vodka and just walked right on the ship. The people boarding behind us bought vodka and the ships staff took it from them and held till the cruise was over! We all like to save a little money now and then don't we? I hope I don't sound to cheap! Anyway it works and we do it all the time.
With Kindest Regards
Richard

Carnival can be especially tough about bringing liquor so we flew with it in our hand bags and put it in our luggage when we got to the airport. They don't seem to check your checked luggage. We also used the water bottles and vodka routine. The Carnival drink coupon books that you can buy before going and the childrens soft drink cards were a pretty good deal too.Good Luck

This whole situation seems to arise from gouging on the part of some cruise lines.

On RCI we paid the norm of about $5.00 to $5.75 US per drink. We didnt buy too many.

On Airtours and the Bolero recently we paid about $2.50 to $3.00 US and felt this reasonable.

To bypass the gouging, buy your liquor and decant it into the 500ml plastic U brew containers and take aboard. These containers are suggested because the have an excellent reuseable cap. Also, a 8-10 oz thermos jug is a good idea to have. This is great for OJ in the cabin , or a hot coffee first thing.

Carnival in particular frowns on bringing your own. I usually bring a couple flasks. I am not sure on CCL's rule's but on RCL you can purchase a bottle in the gift shop to consume "in you cabin". Anything you buy onshore they, like CCL, will hold it for you until the last evening.

You can order a bottle through Room Service on Carnival, but it's outrageously expensive. Carnival now allows you to bring wine and champagne onboard, but no liquor or beer. But you can always put it with your checked luggage.

On Sunbird last year we had no problems with buying alcohol and taking it up to our cabins. As long as you do not openly take a bottle into the theatre and only drink it in your cabin they were quite happy about it. (I mean they sell spirits in the duty free shop!!) At dinner if you had your own wine they charged $7.50 for corkage.

Not Bad!!

On our recent cruise on (RCI). My cousin has always grown grapes and recently realized his and his families dream and opened the doors on there own winery. We took several bottles of his wine with us. Several to drink and one to take on the islands for pictures in his tasting room. The story is that I was suprised to fimd out that RCI did not have any "formal" corkage fees. I did tip him very nicely and he enjoyed a taste with us. Kevin

Hi folks Thanks a bunch for all the info you are such a creative group. Maybe we won't spend as much this year as we did last year We still like to buy the specialty drinks I may pass on the special glasses though. I don't think we have taken them out of the cupboard since we put them there last year. I really thought we would use them but we forgot about them Thanks again Anymore ideas???
