My husband and I are considering an Oct 28 cruise from Boston to Bermuda and beyond, ending in San Juan. Should the end of hurricane season be sending me into a panic?
Thanks for any and all input. We're first time cruise travelers.

Waldron: Well, I certainly would not cancel any cruise for a threat of a hurricane! The ships are pretty mobile (I am sure it could happen) and can skirt most hurricanes. You might miss a port and it might be a little rough but they get pretty good weather forcasts. I say go or at the very least go a few months later. Kevin

Go - don't cancel. You can get rough weather any time of the year, not only in hurricane season so there is o reason to cancel.
As Kevin said - if there is a bad storm the Captain will go around it - they are used to these things and know what to expect.

If I were a first time cruiser I don't believe I would cruise during hurricane season. If you are concerned or worried about it already I would wait till the threat is gone. The only way I would book a cruise in hurricane season is at the last minute when the Weather Channel gives an all clear forecast hurricane free, the fallout extends for hundreds of miles. I believe a good judge of ones ability to weather the seas is if you can spend days at an amusment park riding the rides and it not disrupt your having a good time. You can leave the park at any time but you can't get off the ship. I surly don't want to stop you from the best vacation of your life but if you have never cruised before I would hate for you to have the worst you've ever experienced. We recently went on a cruise and 12 foot seas did make me semi sea sick. It would be nice if others would post there experiences of how high the waves were on their cruise, hurricane season or other times.

Well, 35 of us are not worried.. and some are first timers.

We're booked on the Zenith 10/27 15-night repositioning cruise out of New York. So, if the weather is bad... we'll get to see some new ports... or have more sea days (Yeah!!), wear flats, take Bonine and have a great time!!!

October 20 is our sail date - I'm not concerned about hurricanes at sea, but I do worry about the weather in our departure port. Cruised in August last year and those last few days before our cruise, watching those hurricane forecasts was pretty nerve wracking - hurricane turned and we had a great cruise (one of the smoothest ever).

I have often wondered what happens if a hurricane is forecast to hit the turnaround port (Ft,Lauderdale,Miami) on a weekend. What is the Standard Opereational Proceedure for both inbound & outbound ships? How do they handle the travel problems that the passengers will insue?

Has anyone experienced this?

welcome aboard Waldron.

I have a theory about life - the things that you worry about rarely happen to you. It's the unexpected things that do the damage!
O.K. it is just possible that you cruise could be affected by a hurricane, alternatively your car could crash on the way to the port or your plane could fall out of the sky! Fortunately, all these things are very very unlikely!

Don't panic...enjoy!
