HAL now requires that 2 cruises be taken before you can join. My sister-in-law enquired about joining and was told 2 cruises are now required. I wonder if this is the same standard now on all CCL lines.

cameron,

A Mariner is a repeat cruiser on HAL. You receive news letters and discounts.

I can not understand why HAL would do such a thing. It makes little sense but then from what I have heard it is just another of many changes that CCL has made to a once great cruise line. I have not cruised with them since CCL toke over. I am a member of Carnival's program with their records showing that I have only been on 1 of their cruises. In fact I have been on 3. The first 2 before they had a program.

I have never seen the cruise clubs to be much of a deal anyway. My wife and I receive mailings from HAL and Princess and have never found a deal in either of them. I bottom fish and can find much better deals on the internet than their mailings. We cruised RCCL in February 2000 and have never received the first mailing from them.

Hi ocngypz -
My understanding is that if you have cruised with a Line under the Carnival banner, you are entitled to a discount.

We did a trans-Atlantic on the QE2 in September and, because of our past HAL travels, were granted a discount - can't recall how much but it was around 8-10% - no big deal but it was a discount! Check it out with your TA.

barpal - Don't know where you come from but HAL mariner discounts, combined with Early Booking discounts are pretty generous - where did you find the bettr deals?

Why should a one time cruiser receive special discounts?

I'm happy that HAL is rewarding repeat cruisers but I'd up the requirement to at least 3 cruises - what do other Mariners think?

My answer "not on Seabourn or Cunard"... had to do with the original question. The poster was asking if one had to complete two cruises on any of the other Carnival Fine Family lines in order to become eligible for Mariner membership.

On both of these lines.. one is entitled to past passenger discounts after their first cruise.

The whole point of these past passengers clubs is to keep the customer coming back.
It's the old sales rule..... repeaters and referrals comprise 80% (or thereabouts) of your business.

Green: Sorry... I don't think much of your idea. From a marketing standpoint.... it alienates... not encourages.

I called HAL to inquire fares for Christmas 2001 cruise. I was quoted 35% off on top of the brochure price because I have cruised with Carnival. 35% off is not bad.

Point me (and many others) to a retailer(s) who give(s) discounts after only one purchase!!! - we'd beat a path to the door.

Happy cruisin'
