Heard a rumor at Seatrade last week. The Horizon was sold to Royal Olympic Cruises and chartered back to Celebrity for one year.

Really wouldn't surprise me in the least. Horizon's days are numbered... she's been relegated into a self-destruct itinerary out of Miami in the fall and she's been taken off the NYC-Bermuda run for Summer 2002.

I predicted last Dec. over on r.t.c. that RCCL would sell the Horizon/Zenith twins sooner than later.....and would sell off Celebrity. I keep looking at RCCL's debt ratio...... and still no improvement.... I also haven't seen too much interest in their recent shelf offering either.

Welcome aboard Mr.Cruise.

Celebrity is expanding rapidly with three newbuilds, which equals approximately 7,500 more berths.

Their two mid-sized ships Horizon and Zenith (46,000 Tons Approx)are 11 and 9 years old respectively. I can't imagine them retaining them too much longer.

However, these ships are so distinctive that they have almost become part of the Celebrity 'Brand'. It's hard to imagine another cruise line opperating them!

I think that Celebrity will sell soon both the Horizon and the Zenith, because these ships have a layout too different compared with those of the other ships.only two examples:they can't offer any private balcony and there isn't any possibility to add them. The fitness center is small and doesn't offer ample thalassoterapy facilities. The Horizon will be a good ship for ROC that could compete well with larger companies as Costa Crociere and the growing ones Festival/First European Cruises and MSC.

HORIzon has always been a source of rumours, some founded, some false. When we sailed on her in April of 1999, many crew members swore she was going to Europe to be stretched. I had booked her trans-Atlantic, but then she was invited back to Bermuda and never did go to Europe. Homeporting in Aruba did not work out well mainly due to air connections and, yes, this Friday program out of Miami seems to be the last resort. But I wonder if Celebrity will give up ZENITH so quickly, as this would mean the end of their service to Bermuda which has traditionally been lucrative for them. Only time will tell.

I was just thinking how very distinctive the Celebrity ships really are. Some other cruise lines ships look pretty similar to me, they just with different shaped funnels. However, the Celebrity ships are totally unique.

Even their newbuilds, which I appreciate are a little contreversial and not to everyone's taste, are still very individual, and still designed in the 'Celebrity' style.

Maybe Celebrities ships will become tomorrows 'classics'? We done Celebrity!

Hmmmmmmm...... I think Zenith may leave quicker than you think.

At the start of this fall's season, Celebrity will have Zenith in Tampa, Horizon in Miami, Century in Ft. Lauderdale, Millennium in Ft. Lauderdale, Infinity in San Juan, Galaxy in San Juan and Summit In Ft. Lauderdale and Mercury doing her South America runs. That's an awful lot of berths to fill...especially on those 10-11 day cruises which were undersubscribed on Zenith and Horizon.

Come summer: Infinity and Mercury head to Alaska... Galaxy and Millennium to Europe... Zenith to NY, Century keeps plugging away out of Ft. Lauderdale......what to do with Summit??????

Possible scenario...... Say bye to Zenith, Century goes to NY for the Bermuda run!!! and Summit stays in Ft. Lauderdale to give the Grand Princess a run for the summer business!

Yes, I know.... Century is much bigger than either Zenith or Horizon. But.... Celebrity is now down to one ship. Century holds only 150 more passengers than RCL's Nordic Empress. She is also cheaper to run than Horizon or Zenith. With one ship on the NYC-Bermuda run, Celebrity can sustain high rates.... and then there are those mini-suite verandahs!!!

Oh....gee.....then there is the last of the quads......M4 .....what to do with her??????

I don´t really think that both ships will be sold in the next future. They have just made some major changements onboard both ships, the interiors have changed in some areas to offer a similar product to the newer Celebrity-ships.
It would be not a good step for Celebrity to sell the two nicest ships of their fleet. In the Mediterranean they would do an excellent job for Europeans with 7-day cruises out of Genoa, Venice or Palma for example.

As much as both Horizon and Zenith are loved by former pax, the fact that neither ship has verandah's in today's market (70% U.S. pax.) makes cruising "undesirable" by today's cruisers, who want wallclimbing, ice skating, etc... I hope Celebrity keeps both ships, because I for one find the size, number of pax and service just right for my tastes. I think there's still a large market for those of us who still enjoy the act of cruising and love being at sea, where you don't have to be entertained every minute of the day. Relaxing at sea is still my favorite pastime

Regards...Bob
