While on the Sensation this past week (God it seems so long ago)two fellow passengers were left in Cozumel (university students) The CD made an announcement the next day telling us that they had been left behind and that they would meet the ship in New Oreleans. The conversation for the rest of the day was, "Geez they really will go without you". Well believe it or not but as we were up on deck watching the ship leave New Oreleans we could see three young girls Early 20s walking along the pier. It was 6.10 the ship was supposed to sail at 6pm and we were told to be back on board by 5.30pm. Since there was not another ship in we all assumed they were either just watching the ships leave or they were from our ship. Sure enough they finally realized that we were moving away from the dock and one of them started to run towards the passageway. The other two hadn't a care in the world they were walking along eating icecream. People on deck started shouting at them to enjoy New Oreleans. The girls then realized that they were being left and that the ship was not coming back. We never did see them again but I assumed they met the ship in Tampa too get their belongings. As much as I felt sorry for them I also thought they were pretty stupid especially after what happened in Cozumel. Any more stories out there?

This sounds like a classic case of too much Carlos 'n Charlie's. EVERYTIME I have been on a ship leaving Cozumel, many of the younger, college age crowd came back to the ship staggering. Maybe these young people were too loaded to realize what was going on.

It's often happening that passengers are missing the ship in a port, especially in some ports like Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, New Orleans and St. Thomas (due to the heavy traffic between downtowm and the port). In case someone miss the ship it's important to contact the ship's agent of that port (name and address can be found in the daily program or in the port information leaflet), which can arrange transportation to the next port of call and can inform the ship. Once it happened that a passenger was reported missing between New Orleans and Tampa and a man overboard search was started; then we found out that he had just missed the ship in New Orleans. Sometimes also crewmembers are missing the ship.

Three stories from the Norwegian Coastal Express a few years ago. These are packet ships handling cargo primarily and passengers incidentally, although they carry 100 pax or more. A newlywed couple didn't show up for a meal but wasn't missed by the bride's mother because she thought they just slept late until she was paged for a telephone call. The couple had missed the ship and was given a ride to a bus which would carry them to a port where they could rejoin the ship. No cost to them except the bus fare. Friendly Norwegians! At another port where we were warned that the stop would not be long enough for us to get off a young passenger decided to patronize the hotdog stand on the quay. When he came out with a hotdog in either hand the ship had cast off all but the bow mooring line and the gangway was stowed. He looked blankly at the mate on the bridge wing who stared at him for a while and then ordered the ship swung back. The young man stood on the forks of a fork lift and was hoisted out over the water so he could clear the rail and come aboard. The hotdogs were still in either hand. At another port one of the cabin stewardesses came back just as we were leaving and again the gangway was stowed so she was dragged over the rail by some of her co-workers. These are fun things you don't have on a cruise liner!!!

It seems that there are people in this world who assume that their schedule is ALL IMPORTANT - they give no thought to anyone else - this I think is a sign of the times.

I've heard many stories about people on coach tours who see nothing wrong in holding their 40+ travel companions up because they were 'held up in the shop, restaurant or whatever'. Some cruise passengers are no different.

It's the "I'm all right Jack" syndrome!!!! Such inconsiderate people should be left standing and pay for catch-up arrangements. Today particularly, I feel strongly about this - three of my appointments were screwed up by such clods!!!

Well, it's off my chest now and I feel better!!!

To Green: You should try Grand Circle for tours. Trips we have been on with them the people are prompt except for a legitimate emergency (nosebleed in one case) because they are a mature, high-grade- bunch like me!

Hi James, I too am mature and high-grade!

Haven't heard of Grand Circle - probably a US operator with no representation in Canada.

Legitimate lateness is acceptable - trying on clothes or some other fool thing is not! My experience tells me that 'latecomers' have inventive imaginations.

Happy cruisin'
