Anyone have a clue or care to comment on why Princess' website is so far behind the times?

They still show year 2000 cruise-dates and show nothing beyond September 2001 for many (if not all) ships.

They are one of the few major lines which show neither prices nor deck plans.

Very, very uninformative!

Could be a work in progress. Carnival's site had been crying for an update for the longest time, too. I don't think Princess is in any real trouble financially, so they might just be in the process of a major redesign effort.

BIGU....Thanks for the reply.
I didn't think Princess was in trouble.
More likely disinterested in providing info over the Web. I think they'd just rather we did our research via their brochures and TAs.
After all, they never did have website info re: rates and deck plans/cabin availability.

Yeah, that's something they should build into the site, however it may be that they're not necessarily interested in taking bookings over the web, or maybe they don't have the supporting IS infrastructure in place just yet. They do have a shore excursion booking engine, which I've actually just taken advantage of myself for my upcoming Alaska cruise. A word of warning, however: the excursion engine may not be compatible with all computer platforms. Friends of ours who are joining us on the cruise attempted to book their excursions, and they received errors indicating that some garbage characters had been entered into a given field, when in reality they had entered the number "2." They're using an iMac, whereas, we're using (being enslaved by?) that "other" OS from Redmond, WA. I don't know what browser they were using, though.

Their web site may be a little behind, however have you seen the neat screensaver that they have for free?

Yeah I really agree Princess need to do something major with their website and so to do Carnival!!!!! For such a sucessfull company I think that their website lets them down big time! I cant even get a brochure on it? I think that the best cruise ship website it Cunard's.. it's very classy and elegant like their ships!! Big thumbs up to them but not to Carnival..... sorry!

Thanks all for the responses.

I spend most of my cruise-searching-time at Celebrity's, RCI's and HAL's websites. They have the best information re: prices, cabin availability, deck plans, etc.

I have additional evidence that the Princess web site creates problems for Mac users. Another individual (also a Mac user) in my group was attempting to book his excursions online and encountered the same sort of character corruption errors. So Mac users, beware! I wonder how well it works under Linux, though.

Just checked out the new Princess website and although it's improved I wpould hope there's more to come.
Still lacking are:

1. deck plans
2. prices
3. cabin availability

So, when you find a cruise which may interest you there's still no information for comparisons.

A real big difference - still short on the nitty-gritty tho!

Maybe I missed them - no deck plans?
Guess you can't have everything all at once. Cam works nicely - even has instructions for Macintosh!!!

Happy cruisin'

I am also not impressed with Princess new website (after waiting FOREVERfor the change). I haven't been able to access any of the itineraries. I'm on a MAC so maybe the cruise excursion problems has been extended to other parts of the site for Macs. Te only good thing about the site is the webcams!!

I wasn't impressed either! - there is some mention of new itineraries - nothing specific -go to News - What do you want - then click New Releases.

Looks like they are still working on the site.
