We have booked a Venice to Barcelona cruise next June. We have a balcony cabin on the R5.
Has anyonebeen on the R5 or Renaissance?

Interested in any comments about air transportation ( charter from New York),we are flying out of Boston - my travel agent has had passengers go to New Yoork for charter and also other passengers fly directly to Europe from Boston, any any other general commnents.

Hope to hear from you soon.

I have cruised on three R ships (Tahiti,Lisbon to Barcelona, Athens/Greek Isles/Israel/Crete/Istanbul) plus Renaissance 8 which is a large yacht-like ship (Athens/Greek Isles/Istanbul).
I like the R ships better than any other cruise ship I have taken (about 15 cruises to date).
I stopped cruising on the R ships two years ago after they started an adults only policy. I have been waiting until December, 2001 to resume R cruising because that is when they will start allowing children to be passengers.
I rate the R ships as excellent. I like the smaller size and the very good management of the travel programs (not the tours during the cruise which I rate as only satisfactory). I often arranged my own air transportation so I can't comment too much on the air flights provided by Ren. However, our Hawaiian Air charter from L.A. to Papeete, round trip, was very good.
One comment about your Barcelona hotel stay...if u take the tour from the ship before u check in at the hotel, you might not be able to get a non-smoking room (this happened to me) when you check in later.
btw, the cuisine on the Ren ships is superb. Best of any cruise line. I hope that u enjoy the cruise..bon voyage !
