I'm planning a Panama Canal cruise in April 2003 for approximately 10 couples. I've cruised Princess before and really like them. I've heard really good things about RCCL, but don't know the quality of their ships. Input / recommendations from cruising veterans would be very much appreciated!

Has anyone ever renewed their wedding vows on board ship? What was your experience like?

Thanks

Have been on both lines (9 RCI, 15 Princess), overall, I prefer Princess much more, food, service, etc much better.

However, the cabins on Princess are smaller, especially the balcony cabins. I will tho take the smaller cabins.

I have been on three RCI cruises and 1 Princess cruise (The Grand).

We liked both cruise lines. I really enjoyed the food and service on the Grand. I would go on Princess anytime. The destinations would need to be special for me to want to go on RCI.

It might be worthwhile for you to look at Celebrity -- the upscale RCI.

victoriabc1 -

Why don't you check out HAL? Depending on time of year you can depart from or return to Vancouver.

We've sailed through the Panama Canal with HAL from Ft.Lauderdale to Vancouver and are now looking foward to doing the trip in reverse on the Zaandam, Sept. 29

Thanks for the HAL suggestion, but we've had bad experiences with that particular line and will not cruise them again.

I'm assuming that RCI and RCCL both stand for Royal Caribbean.

My experience would grade Princess a little higher than RCCL/RCI. RCI is really a slightly more mature and restrained competitor to Carnival while Princess would see their natural competition to be HAL and RCI's upmarket arm Celebrity.

For my money, I will take Princess. RCI has backslid with the advent of their megaships and have become very downmarket.
