Anyone else the small article in Sundays paper about Al Roker (NBC weather man) who had a safety razer and some batteries confiscated as he went thru security and then went into one of the airport shops and they were selling (can you guess?), the same items which he bought and took back to the people in security. His statement was that he was not trying to be a wise guy, but just wanted to show them. Good for him, for bring this to the airport's attention. Let's get tough everywhere.

Good for him.

Does anyone know if cameras with film must still be hand inspected if the camera owner requests a hand inspection?

I have a friend who is a pilot for American and told me many AA pilots/crew are refusing to fly because this "heightened security" is BS. They can't check for ceramic weapons (knives or guns) and many other thinigs that can be used. I won't feel comfortable flying until they get sky marshalls back in the air in force. I'll still fly (leaving Thursday for a Windjammer) - I refuse to let the satanic ones make me change my ways.

Just returned last night from a flight from Europe.

Had to be at the airport 4 hours in advance. It took all that time to get checked, with only about half hour to spare for duty free shopping.

Passports were checked at least 4 times. Also had an army person talk to us, asking questions in general. They had army personnel walking in two's with machine guns, observing people and listening to their conversations. They just walked around the airport looking people straight in the eye and just observing.

When we landed in Toronto we were told it was the same thing there as well. Army personnel with loaded guns in the departure areas last week.

I had my carry on bag screened twice. Once at check in. I was asked to remove the batteries from my camera, and leave them loose. All nail files, pins, broaches, those all purpose knives with screw drivers, scissors, etc had to be in checked luggage.
Was again screened after duty free shopping.

But in the duty free store you can buy batteries as well. People were remarking that with our supper we had steel knives.

Was also told that there is an undercover person on all flights out of US and Canada.

But they say it is a good time to travel, because of all the security checks it is very safe.

We will continue travelling.

P.S.

I did have one concern though. A young clean cut fellow sitting behind me took out a large duffle bag from the overhead bin, and proceeded to the back of the plane. I was wondering where he was going, and was sort of watching, but lost track of him.

I decided to join the line up for the washroom, and one was occupied for a long time.

That young fellow came out, and it looked like he brushed his teeth, washed his hair, shaved and changed his shirt.

I felt a bit relieved when I saw him, but think the attendants should have noticed him going in with the duffle bag. He should not be allowed to tie up the washroom for that amount of time when there is a line up.

Lillian, I'm just curious, which country did you fly out of?

Hi Marcia:

I flew out of Warsaw, Poland on LOT Airlines. I have flown many major airlines, but I must say that this was the best I have flown. It was the first time for me.

Food was excellent, and very plentiful to the stage that it was too much. Drinks (alcohol and soft) were free, and they served them many times if you so desired, and I did not see anyone misbehave.
Seats were a bit more roomy than on other airlines, and we were quite comfortable. Flight was very smooth. But that also depends on the weather. It was a 767 aircraft. Service was excellent. Our flight back to Toronto took almost 9 hours and it arrived on time.

There were many people going back to the States there as well. They had arranged for a bus to pick them up in Toronto, and get bused back to the US.

Maricia,

I saw the article on foxnews.com.

On the radio this morning in Atlanta , there is a story about a guy who forgot he had a gun and got through all security yesterday. When he realized it, he went to security to report it. He was arrested.
