a friend and i are looking into getting away for a week to mexico....and by the looks of pricing (been on many cruises...1 this year) i just found out that it is about 300 dollars cheaper and that was including EVERYTHING even taxes. ......to do the all inclusive to acapulco compared to HAL and Princess for a week. the way cruises are going...charging for way over-priced drinks, charging a 15% on everything you eat or drink and shore excursion...we are very much looking into becoming land-lubbers....what do you think ?...jeff

Don't know about B.C. but in Ontario there's a 8% Provincial Tax and 7% GST on almost everything (maybe in reverse) but it all adds us to 15% additional at check out. Cruising is still a good deal - unlimited free coffee, ice cream entertainment, etc. etc. - at least on HAL - - what's you beef?

Jeff - HAL doesn't add 15% to anything, including the drinks. I still feel cruising is the way to go.
Unless you go to an all-inclusive, you still have to pay for food, drinks, entertainment - so what is the difference?

I cruise on a ship to be on a ship and out in the ocean to see water on all sides, the sounds of the waves, and the smell of the salty air. This helps defrag the hard drive in my head. The ports are secondary, entertainment third.
The motion helps me sleep at night.

There is also that 'unquantifiable' feel and magic an ocean liner or sailing ship imparts.

Part of the reason I have never sailed on a modern condo-on-a-barge is because of little connection to the sea.

Hell, if I could sail the Canberra, Normandie, QE1, Empress of Britain 1, or Leo Da Vinci, I would tolerate Bayonne, New Jersey, or Mobile, Alabama.

A land vs. sea vacation is apples and oranges

I agree with you, jeffinvancover. I am making firm plans to be in Europe for 2-3 weeks next summer and although I am not doing a package tour, I have found wonderful hotel prices that are very low and they include taxes. The Mexico deal sounds good. As much as I love cruising and the ocean, the right price is always a final factor in traveling. If I can find a "steal" in cruising for this summer, I will cruise. If not, I will be a landlubber.
