Yes steve, it is a well know fact that ALL Americans do have a big stash of money!

Joking aside, I don't really know? I can only imagine that it is as I predicted last year. You can only sit at home worrying about terrorism for so long, sooner or later, people have to get back on with their lives and naturally want a vacation.

The American people are obviously stronger in character, more resilient and wiser that the media gives them credit for!

However, none the less it is surprising! I would not have expected any booking records this year, especially so soon. Maybe Carnival are offering some great deals?

I'm just guessing, we should ask our American friends?

Most of the American cruise lines are now offering good deals and that is probably responsible because we know they are too good to last.

The deals are indeed incredible. And i bet they don't last for long. We are going on the Noordam for 2 weeks for less money than we paid to go to Bermuda for 1 week!

PS. Our March 3 sailing date is coming fast I'm getting excited about this cruise.

You're right! RuthPerk. After checking my pay stubs, it seems the government has been giving my money to some retiree named FICA in Florida to take my cruises for me.

How thoughtful

I was in America the weekend of Oct 21st and I read in about 3 magazines (Newsweek and I can't remember the others) that Port Everglades and some other port in South Florida had more fuel storage tanks than any other place in the southeast US because of the cruise ships and that they were actually "anticipating a terrorist strike" at any time in THAT area. Remember when the news was on about something happening "Down South"? Everyone was on alert. My cousin who is an Army Ranger in Florida was even talking about it.
By December they were talking about the zillions of dollars the cruise lines had lost since Sept 11 and how the cruise prices had dropped to an ALL TIME LOW. So that's pretty much what happened. People were terrified to even be in that area but now they are taking advantage of the deals. I even saw a three day cruise to the Bahamas for $129.00 advertised.

It does appear that cruise booking are picking up across the board, not only at Carnival but also other cruise lines. Some of the lines are indicating that bookings are running at 90% as opposed to 40-60% just after Sept. 11th. And some of those low low fare are disappearing. Many cruises are at capacity and real bargains are becoming fewer and fewer.

Now the problem is to absorb all the new capacity (newbuilts) coming on stream.

Wow, the lines are slashing prices to get the bodies down the gangway rather than have low occupancy. Sounds like a recipe for low margins to me. Also makes me think of Dambrosi's comments about the business....industries driven by these kinds of economics don't have the niceties for customers that many veteran cruisers expect.
