Can anyone recommend a cruise line which visits the Fjords, sailing from England? I have looked at Fred Olsen and NCL, which would seem to be fine, but would like to consider the alternatives. Rather than visit the local travel agent, I decided to ask people with personal experience - you.

If you are over 50, you may want to consider the SAGA ROSE (formerly Cunard's Sagafjord) which is operated by Saga Holidays based in the UK. They have cruises from England to many ports in Europe including the Norwegian fjords. We sailed on Saga Rose to the Baltic last year and she is a fine ship with a wonderful crew.

Airtours Sundream and P&O's Victoria, Ocean Majesty (Harwich) and Cunard's Caronia all cruise to the Fjords from UK ports.

I'm quite a fan of Olsen's 'Black Watch', but the newer 'Braemar' will be cruising to the Fjords too!

Compare the Prices!

Sometimes it is cheaper, not to cruise from the Home-Country.

Flamenco for Example cruises from Kiel, germany and some other Ships from Amsterdam´, Netherlands.

It is no problem, to come from England to the start-ports.

With English as your basic language, you will have no Problems on any Ship, which is cruising in the North, including all Companies.

Take a ship under 30.000 GRT as bigger ships cannot visit the nicest places.
I did North cape and fjords last year on Black Watch, it could just pas under some bridges near Tromso. Fred Olsen is a good company but the average on board their ships is about 77. So by 11PM everybody is in bed

Wow, Johan, you had a wild bunch on your Black Watch cruise! On mine, the passengers had children of 77 and went to bed at 10pm!

Joking aside, many of the ships offering round trips from the UK, appeal to older passengers! You don't really have much choice of age group.

As Amerikanis pointed out, there are fly-cruises to the Fjords. Celebrity, as an example, offer cruises from Copenhagen.

Thanks Malcolm, that makes me somewhat 'ancient', and you too for that matter! There were more than 40 kids, few enough to keep them hidden most of the time! Johan I think it depends on the timing and length of cruise. Go during UK term times for 2 weeks and you'll get an older set. On BP before Christmas there were NO 'ancients' at all, and few early retirees. Mostly 30-50. But generally, yes, they will be an older bunch on FO.

I also think Fjords and scenery type trips attract more elderley people?

QE2, Caronia, Royal Princess, Hebridean, Kristina, Costa ships all do the fjords too.
Look on one of the port websites for a timetable of ships calling. Page & Moy go that way too.

Personally I prefer to do without the hassle of flying or driving to the continent first, if there's something on my doorstep.

Pam

Hi Scorpio, we sailed on the Royal Princess through the Fjords a few years ago. Great itinerary and the scenery was absolutely spectacular. We are just over 50, and the average age on the cruise was about 75. Only saw a few kids.

I believe that Radisson Seven Seas is also doing the Fjords this year. This is an upscale cruise line but if you can afford it, then it is well worth the $. They include tips, wine and a stocked bar. In addition they often have specials on air if you need and give a $200 shipboard credit if you book and pay the initial fee on the sameday. I highly recommend this cruise line.

Have a great cruise!
