Many CruisTalkers seem to be loyal to a particular cruise line and sometimes even a particular ship.

How many of you have cruised multiple cruise lines?

Has anyone tried all the big players?

...or are you loyal to just one line and why?

But i have an favourite Cruiseline: CHANDRIS, now it is CELEBRITY.

My last Cruise was with Costa, and the next is with Transocean, March 14.

This is in 12 Days. I can not wait...

Malcolm

We've sailed with NCL three times, RCI twice, HAL and Princess once, but 5 times with Celebrity, with number six booked for September. Enjoyed HAL and Princess, but Celebrity meets our expectations the best. NCL and RCI were just "OK".
Now, if I could just afford Crystal or Radisson

Regards...Bob

We're loyal to HAL.

Why?
(a) disappointments have been few and complaints have been acknowledged/rectified to our satisfaction;
(b) my other half hates surprises, the thinking being "why switch - another Line might be worse";
(c) we tried another Line and were very disappointed - didn't measure up to'advertising hype' and was over-priced;
(c) cruises don't come cheap - we feel we get what we pay for with HAL......why risk CA$8,000.00/$10,000.00?

When HAL really 'bombs' we'll switch.

As far as cruising goes, I'm loyal to British Ports. So any line and most ships will do fine as long as I don't have to fly first. Flying has become such a hassle. It used to be fun, but now it's the squashing of as many people into a metal tube as possible. I get enough of that on other trips, so for a cruise I don't want it.

I have never been on the same ship twice..but am doing so at the end of March. Not sure if it will be a good or bad thing.

One thing I wouldn't do, is to repeat an itinerary within a few years. I do prefer sea days, but want to see different places...which means I will have to change my loyalties to the ports sometime, as it's not possible to do half the places I want to from here in the times available.

Pam

We have sailed RCCL, Carnival, Celebrity,Saga Rose, Delta Queen but HAL is our favorite. We appreciate their Indonesian and Filipino staff, their excellent musicians, their tipping policy, and their teak, all-around lower promenade deck shaded from the sun and shielded from the rain. Our next three cruises will be on Statendam, Rotterdam and Zuiderdam. We have never been disappointed on an HAL ship.

Malcolm...it looks like you've started another HAL love-in.
As for us...22 different ships of 11 companies so obviously some have been repeated several times like the Marco Polo...for a total of 127,000 miles.
Three criteria are always used.. Itinerary, ship, and cost..if they come together then they go on the list.

I have sailed on 22 ships, on 33 voyages, so there are duplications for sure! My trips have seen me aboard Princess (8), P&O (5), Carnival (6), Norwegian (5), Holland America (3) Celebrity (2), Sun (1), Cunard (2), Delta {remember them??}(1) and Imperial Majesty (1). You will notice that Royal Caribbean is missing from my list, but their early ships were a major disappointment and soggy astro-turf was not to my liking, so I never tried them out. Maybe soon though.
My loyalty is to my travel agent and holiday budget! I know what I like and travel accordingly. Ships are more important to me than the onboard service or ports of call.
A personal opinion of them, biases included: Princess-always seem to go back to them, feel at home there. P&O-truely British and probably the best, but too expensive for annual cruising. Carnival-have improved tremendously over the last 4 years and have gone from very poor (but nice older liners) to incredible value for the money spent. Norwegian has fallen from a trend setting position, to a very poor almost bottom of the heap budget line; deferred maintenance evident everywhere, very poor food and service levels at the basement: NCL an acronym for No Cash Left or No Class Left but still love the Norway! Holland America-wish I had travelled more often with them, and will very soon I hope; great and getting better. Celebrity-too bad Royal Caribbean is chipping away and lowering the once proud line to levels lower than Princess and HAL. Sun (Airtours)-I paid a fare normal for 7 days and got 19, but I got what I paid for!! Cunard-wonderful ship but I travelled at their lowest ebb and was not pleased, but am anxious to sail again. Delta-freighter style and fantastic, but now they are only a memory. Imperial Majesty-wow; a trip back in time (a real liner) and great value for the money; why waste time on the beach or in a city for pre cruise time and climate adjustment, when you can sail for 2 nights and never regret a minute!! A must for any ship fanatic.
I have loved them all; just some are better than others. I once heard it said, that "the best Islands in the world all have at least 2 propellers at the back end". I'm a believer in that! Bon voyage to all cruisers, no matter what the the line.

Today i found, i should be loyal to Celebrity:

There is an offer in German Television, on SAT 1
Channel, Page 417 for an unbelievable Price:

21 Days from Valparaiso, Chile to San Diege, US, including the Flights from Germany to Chile and back from US, with the MERCURY, in an inside Stateroom for unbelievable 1.699 Euro, this is about Dollar US 1500.

I pay more for an shorter Cruise on the ASTOR in Asia, and the Astor is not as good as the Mercury.

So, this comes from Illoyality...

...this morning, i bit myself in my Ass...

Royal Cruise Line (1), Seabourn (1), Cunard (14).
I guess this answers the question.

36 with HAL and 2 more booked. Need I say more. I'm happy and see no need to change. Have made a lot of friends on board and on this last trip, which was my first "solo" since hubby passed away, was much easier for me because I was treated so well.
Couldn't care less about the ports, in fact on the last one I only got off in St. Thomas. I just looked at the itinerary of my November cruise and I probably won't be getting off there either.
It's the ship I go for, not the itinerary.

Sympatico, I respect your preferance and understand your reasons.

However, don't you ever wonder in the back of your mind, that another Cruise Line could be better than HAL and you could have been missing out all these years?

Malcolm - no I really don't wonder if there is someting better out there for me. I feel like I am "going home" when I step on board a HAL ship and as I said I have made so many friends on board that I feel very comfortable going alone. My husband felt the same way.
As far as I am concerned I haven't been missing out on anything.
Look at LizB with her 65th HAL cruise coming up. I think she feels the same way I do. How about it Liz?

We have been on Royal Caribbean 6, HAL 3, Costa 1, NCL 1, Admiral 1, Royal Olympic 1, Delta 1, Odessa/American 1. We are now booked on Brilliance of the Seas for October. Have loved all cruises, on some, the ships were not the best, but still loved the ports and the travel with some wonderful friends. Of those, two lines are gone, two I would not book on again because of bad experience. Our favorite is RCCL, followed closely by HAL. But I am sure we would love most others also. Just not enough time or money to do them all.
We just love to travel.

Marcia, let me guess:

One Line, you would not book again is Odessa/American,

but which is the other???

Royal Olympic?
NCL?
Costa?

I have Experience in Costa and Epirotiki (now Royal Olympic).

I would not book again COSTA.

I'd be a bit more loyal if the lines would build smaller ships and get off this Freudian Theory!!!
I say these lines have gone
to far.
The bigger they are the bigger the turnoff.
Pretty soon, most of us who
may not be able to traverse
from one deck to the next as
we do now. WILL BE CRYING for the ones we sailed on in the past and don't say we won't. Because we will.

Amerikanis, Yes, COSTA is one we would not go on again. Again, if you have a bad experience, it leaves you cold. The cruise director was a total looney. He would scream and yell, climb over seats in the lounge (thought he was cute), the Toga night, he entered the dinning room and proceded to climb on top of tables in his bare feet and this was while people were still eating. We just got up and left. This was just too over the top. Actually I would have to think about going on Royal Olympic again. They changed our ship at the last minute and put us on the Triton. This ship has two elevators that say they hold 5 people, (but if 5 got on the bells rang) and someone had to get off. We took this cruise 6 weeks after I had total knee replacement and I had to take elevator. My husband would walk the steps while I rode, and the elevators never stopped level with the floor. You always had to step up or down. Not the best. But still in all, we love to cruise and do not get toooo upset.

Marcia, the Triton is now under full charter for the German Company HOLIDAY Cruises in Düsseldorf, with success.

Please note: A lot of German Cruisegoers are not experienced or not experienced with international Ships, the buy the Shit, they get offered by their Homeland-Agencies.

The Triton will end in Autumn the Job for Holiday and is replaced by the MONA LISA, which is now VICTORIA of P&O.

I think, Athmosphere, Service and Food are not bad on Epirotiki/Royal Olympic Ships, but it is not correct, to change the Ship short before the Cruise starts.

With your disabled legs, this was no good Ship for you, the Cabins are small, the Ship is an high density Ship and the Crew/Passenger Ratio is poor, as is the Deck Space and Space Ratio.

It is time, the Ship is withdrawn from Service. there are much better (old and new) Ships to book for an Cruise.

My next Cruise is in Asia with the ASTOR. I will report, when i am back. Flight is Tuesday, 12th March, i am back April 1st.

Sympatico...I DO agree with you about HAL. The other Lines we have sailed with are, if I can remember them now, Cunard (2), French Line (1), RCCL (2), NCL (2), Home Lines (2), Carnival (1), but we still always return to HAL for their consistency, their crew, and their conservative approach. And, yes, we are looking forward to my 65th HAL sailing in June!

49 cruises total, as follows:

Italian Line.........1
Home Lines...........1
Holland America......3
Royal Viking Line....1
Carnival.............7
NCL..................9
Sitmar...............1
Chandris.............2
Admiral..............1
Dolphin..............1
Princess.............12
Royal Caribbean......5
Celebrity............3
Premier..............2

As you can see, I don't stick to just one line. Out of this list, Celebrity is probably my favorite. I usually decide my next cruise based on a particular ship I want to sail on, not necessarily on what cruise line or where it goes. Next cruise is on the SILVER CLOUD on June 8th. I may just have a favorite after all!

Wow, income and life expectancy is unlikely to allow me to go on 49 cruises!

So Ernie, what is wrong with the British cruise lines, Cunard and P&O?

Malcolm,
Funny you should mention that..... believe me, absolutely nothing is wrong with the British ships. I just have not gotten around to them yet. When I first started cruising on Princess, back when they were a four ship fleet, they were very British. All British staff and Officers. Of course, that is no longer the case. I love the looks of ORIANA and AURORA, but P&O tends to be very expensive and does not discount compared to a similar product here in the US (which is much cheaper). I am planning to finally sail on the QE2 in April 2003. An Eastbound crossing followed by a Westbound crossing on the new QM2. Looking forward to that.

Don't give up hope on reaching 50 cruises. I'm only 35, and the cruises just kind of "happened". They add up before you know it.

Best,
Ernie Roller,
Atlanta, GA
