Prudent:Today's U.S. Bankruptcy Court mandated auction saw Delaware North, Inc. become the proud owner of this nation's three only remaining overnight steamboats and their operating company, The Delta Queen Steamboat Co. The winning bids are reported as having totaled $80 million. The DELTA QUEEN, MISSISSIPPI QUEEN, and the Company were auctioned as one parcel and the AMERICAN QUEEN as another. The M.V. COLUMBIA QUEEN was won by other parties.
So, what do we know about these people? I don't think they were one of the mentioned candidates... Anyhow, I wish the newly non-bankrupt Delta Queen Steamboat Co. the very best of luck in the future... I hope perhaps to sail on one of their (lovely looking) boats for a change of speed ...

Check out their web sight at www.delawarenorth.com .
I wish that I could answer your questions. I have no idea about the status of the "LIGHT" boats, and I haven't heard any time schedule for bringing out the AQ yet. Also I have not heard whom the winning bidder for the m.v.COLUMBIA QUEEN was either.
quote:Originally posted by Willy Paul:Good Luck. Delaware North owns the Boson Bruins and the Fleet Center in Boston. Up until this year they spent litttle money on either. They were a rather cheap operation. The bottom line is always more important than anything else. They didn't spend any money on the Bruins until the crowd size came down considerably. They have a reputation of operating on the cheap.
Oh no, I hope that isn't the case...

I sailed on her for 14 glorious days, it didn't seem to matter where to us, but did roundtrip NY -Canada, 2 weeks prior to her being seized. I've since sailed on Carnival Victory, Norwegian Sea, Norwegian Majesty and Golden Princess. None can match her ease at sea. No noises could be heard but her gently sailing through the sea. I think I'm going to cry.
At least you can cherish the opportunity of having sailed on this great lady. The closest for me was peeking through her windows when she was Rotterdam. Her outer beauty was magnificent. She looked like something out of a dream. I have never, ever seen a ship with such sleek, elegant lines, such grace. I can only imagine what a treat it would have been to sail on her ...
Still, perhaps it is worse for someone who had 14 days instead of a few hours to get attatched to her... If I had the $10 million, I think I'd just call up ISP (Int. Shipping Partners) and buy her... I think that she is the most significant of all the postwar liners, except for France, but she is changed now, as Norway, though she is still beautiful. Rembrandt is in original condition.
Does anyone know if poor old Rembrandt is being maintained as she languishes at Freeport?

Hi CruiseNY and OceansDevine,
I cannot shutup about how much I love that ship.True, she is like a dream, on board, I would pinch myself to see if I was awake OD, I only had 7 days on the New England Itinerary.
The Norway was a letdown compared to Rembrandt-mostly due to the NCL inferior-redesecration.
I have been hesitant about taking another cruise since no ship comes close to the Rembrandt.
CruiseNY, RotterdamV and Canberra I think are the most significant and trailblazing postwar ships. I miss Canberra too and sailed on her.
The France and QE2 are not radical in any way, simply fine evolutions of the state of the art in ocean liner building.
