We are sailing on the Century Nov.2. Our flight gets into F.L. at 6:30am. We don't have ground transportation and want to check out the city before departing. The question is do we have to drag our luggage around all day before we get on the ship? Celebrity personel will not be at the airport untill 10am. Has anybody had this experience before?

You may want to rent a car. You could drive around Ft.Lauderdale, see the beach and have a nice breakfast.
There is nothing to do in Ft.Lauderdale airport.

A 6.30 am arrival in Ft. Lauderdale is early – don't know where 'home' is but if you’ve spent the night on a plane I’d be tempted to check into a hotel for a few hours sleep otherwise you’ll be too tired to enjoy your first night on board ship. Failing that, I’d hunker down in a comfy chair until the Cruise Line Rep. appeared

Driving around at that time in the morning does not sound like much fun.

Happy cruisin’

Hello,

Personally I second gizmo's idea. Get a car and drive to a restaurant, have breakfast, drive around FLL and then return it and get on the ship.

You won't want to spend the day at Fort Lauderdale airport - there really isn't anything to do there.

The hotel idea isn't bad either... But I'd rent the car myself.

When in Lauderdale, take a stop at the Hyatt Pier 66 (the hotel in Lauderdale). Park the car and then walk around the marina - you'll find people's yachts that could pass for the old Sea Goddess cruise ships (well not quite but they're very impressive). Then go in up to the top of the hotel, there is a rotating lounge with a view... Go outside to the observation deck (this part does not rotate) and you will get a grand view of all the ships in the port.

Happy Cruising,
Cruiseny

I contacted Celebrity and was told their was no reason to wait for their reps unless I am taking their ground transportation because they no longer handle baggage at the airport, the only time they handle your luggage is after you complete check-in at the port. You get your baggage at the airport baggage and load and unload it yourself onto their bus. If that is the case we will just take a cab 2 miles to the port. The main reason I ever used their ground transportation was that you did not have to handle your bags once you checked it in at the departing airport and did not see it again till it appeared outside your cabin door. I guess those days are over. They even went as far as telling me a porter will follow us to our room with our bags. Can you imagine 2000 customers draging their bags thru the check-in line. I have already done this at the departing airport. Why would anybody use their ground transportation if you have to carry your own bags to the port check in?

danc,

I have no idea what time you can check in at the pier, what time luggage is being accepted or what time Celebrity allows you to board.
You may want to check on this.

I would hate to think of standing around the pier with all that luggage and no place to go.
