Last time I was on NCL they split the tails down the middle, making a serving of a half-tail. But I also kind of remember reading that some lines have discontinued serving the King of Crustaceans entirely.

As I plan my next voyage, I'm curious about lobster tail on Celebrity, Carnival, Princess, and Royal Caribbean.

We have had lobster tail on every HAL cruise. You can order as many as you wish or you can have it with filet mignon (Turf and Surf). Enjoy.

thanks for the link -I'm here most of the time and somehow I missed that earlier thread

I wouldn't select a trip ONLY based on one menu item but it is a factor

which makes me wonder....I've had some pretty bad toast and bagels at breakfast. I wonder which lines have good toast.

Oh, I see you have enjoyed some of the "toast" on the cruise lines. Is it not wonderful, dry and lukewarm? If you want to apply butter, it is almost necessary to bring a small propane tourch to melt the butter.

Well, thank God the airlines are still serving the lobster that most of the cruise ships have abandoned.

In the Lido, HAL, makes the toast and toasted bagels while you wait, so they are hot/warm, but they still are not toasted enough. I am always tempted to ask them to put them through the toaster again, but by then they would probably be burnt!.

What's the big deal with lobsters? Supermarkets sell them live or cooked...and they're NOT expensive. Ever notice that the "lobster night" questions come from pax on the cheaper cruise lines? I've never hear it on Crystal or other "upscale" lines.

If you are British it is even harder to understand! Lobster is not one of our national favourities...I suspect we do not consume too many?

For all I care they could get rid of the lobster... The stuff they call lobster on cruise ships is usually so small it could pass of as a crayfish and so rubbery it's best used as a doorstop. If you want really good lobster save all that money from the cruise and go to a good restaurant where you can get good-quality lobster.

I must say, the bad quality often extends to all forms of seafood... The fish served on my last cruise with Royal Caribbean was universally paste-like and with faint "fishy" flavor. I'm sure it was indeed the "fresh catch of the day" - fresh catch of another day that is .

Any ideas on why cruise lines can't seem to hanlde seafood? Normally they do quite nicely in the beef area, but who really wants to eat steak every night ?

As far as I'm concerned they can put the 'crayfish' with the baked alaska - keep it for the first-trippers to take pictures of.

Being from New Englnd, lobster on the cruise ships means nothing to us as what they serve is African tails and IMO do not compare to Maine lobsters. But the question was, who still serves them and HAL goes through a huge amount of those "tails" every cruise as it seems most pax enjoy indulging...I've never heard of any passenger on HAL who wasn't served as many servings of lobster as they desired.

I (and my whole table in fact)actually had excellent lobster tails onboard Brilliance of the Seas durring her recent crossing. Apparently they have a new "steam conveyor" system they use 9similar to the toasters) to make sure the tails don't get overcooked.

Celebrity still serves Lobster Tails. As many as you want. Usually on the last formal night.
