Thanks ResidentX for the review. The pictures you took looks darker(in terms of decor) compared to the pictures at Ocean Village's site.

Thanks for the review and photos. The decor looks rather nice - it appears to have been done by Partner Ship Design who also did the AIDA ships and the refit of A'ROSA BLU.

Sadly it sounds as if the product itself is not so great. It is VERY popular (in the AIDA) form in Germany, I wonder if this has something to do with their ships having been built especially for the concept while OCEAN VILLAGE is a traditional cruise ship converted for the "club ship" style cruising?

Finally the Bayside sounds like an awful concept - a gym/nightclub? I hope it works better in real life than it sounds on paper!

I wonder in general how the cruising pubilc of England thinks about Ocean Village? I am surprised why P&O Princess decided not to build an "AIDA" clone of Ocean Village? BTW, what is a difference between a "club ship" and "traditional" one?

The overall experince was good. Public opinion in Blighty is one of those who have cruised before having problems with the ship and those who have not cruised before finding a few faults but as they have nothing to compare it to they have the time of their lives. Its certainly alot better and impressive than any Spanish all inclusive.

As for the bayside gym it does work as its hidden by a series of mirrored panels and curtains during the night. The nightclub is unused during the day so its OK. There are many more bad points than the shared nightclub gym, I dont really see the purpose when there was already a gym, only marred by the fact it was lower down and didnt have any windows. The gyms were not that used anyways due to the short intense type of cruises the ship operates.

There are many elements which have been lifted straight from the NCL cruise line.

P&O obviously had to do something with the Arcadia and thought she was the most sutible to start the brand with, she isnt too old but still not good enough to keep with the P&O quality cruise line as she is starting to show her age. They need massive enconmies of scale in order to make Ocean Village work, we are talking 6 or seven ships like NCL. Building a whole new ship would of cost time and money which they couldnt spare on a budget cruise line.

All the other budget UK cruise line offer horrible ships in comparison to the Arcadia. Just have to look at the Sun Cruises fleet. In this respect Ocean Village have the best ship.

I dont understand your point about economies of scale. Surely Ocean Village can benefit from the buying power of the P&O-Carnival Empire?

Agreed... Why would they need seven or eight ships to make it work? AIDA works very nicely with only three...

The economies of scale is quite simple, Ocean Village is its own brand which they try very much to detach from P&O but it comes in useful when trying to establish a brand to have security of P&O.

Everything becomes cheaper, buying Stella or Smirnoff Ice etc which wont be used on many of the other ships, with the more ships you have. Just have to look at easyjet and other airlines for that.

Yeah NCL have La Bistro, whereas OV have The Bistro just one of the similarities.

This bit made me laugh:

The entertainment, yuck, I really wished it would stop sometimes. In the daytime, evening and night they brought these two women and a keyboard out. These two really did manage to murder every song they came across, I think they were called Anything Goes. Its more like Everyone Goes, she sang every song in the same tone and the other girl pressed demo on the keyboard. Did I mention they also sing the same songs over and over ? I don't think I was alone in wanting to throw them overboard.
