I've been reading a lot about the Italia, Homeric, and Oceanic, and I thought that Home Lines' would be the perfect cruise line to revive. If I could, I would revive it with recreatings with these three ships, maybe Doric, too. Of course, the Oceanic is still around, so if she wasn't for sale, the new one would need another name like Atlantic. It could perhaps give Celebrity and HAL(who bought out the original) a good run for their money. I was thinking, which cruise line would you revive if you had everything you needed to do so? I'm sorry but no transatlantic lines like White Star, Italian Lines, etc. Also you may list which ships you would want in the fleet?
Cruise Line Examples:
Home Lines'
Chandris
Premier Cruises
Regal Cruises
Commodore Cruise Lines
Regency Cruise Lines
Anything like this is fine.

I would operate the ships on the following schedule.

M.S. Italia
7-day "Exotic" Bahamas from NY cruises to
Nassau
Elethura
San Salvador

M.S. Homeric( rebuild of original with diesels)
7 day Western Mediterranean Cruises from Genoa to Florence, Rome, Sardinia, Malta, and Monte Carlo

M.S Atlantic (rebuild of Oceanic with diesels)
7 day cruises from NY to Bahamas and Bermuda to
Hamilton, Nassau, and St. George.

M.S. Doric
7 day Exotic Western Caribbean Cruises from Ft. Lauderdale to Grand Cayman, Progreso, Belieze, and New Orleans
------------------Alternating With----------------------
7 day Eastern Caribbean cruises from Ft. Lauderdale to St. Thomas, St. Thomas, and Tortola.

I know the deployment may not perfectly follow that of the original Home Lines, but Bahamas & Bermuda is original. What do you think??

Why would the new one need another name? The current owners do not have a monopoly on the name "Oceanic", as long as the new ship doesn't fly the same flag as the old one. Granted, if they both tried to serve the same market it would cause confusion, but that in itself would not disqualify the new company from using the name.

For example, the fact that Lloyd Triestino were operating ships named Europa (1952-76) and Victoria (1953-74) did not deter other operators from using the same names in later years while both these ships were still in service for LT.

North German LLoyd bought Kungsholm and renamed her Europa in 1965. She continued under that name after NGL and Hamburg-America merged in 1970 to form HAPAG-LLoyd.

Incres converted Dunnotar Castle to a cruise ship in 1959 and renamed her Victoria.

Even today, Lloyd Triestino owns a container ship dating from 1977 named LT Europa that operates on the west coast of South America. This ship had been in service for more than 20 years before the LT prefix was added to all LT ships after privatisation to distinguish them from the ships of its partners in the consortiums to which LT belongs. Meanwhile, HAPAG-Lloyd took delivery of its current Europa in 1981.

I know but it still seems a bit odd. If I would name her Oceanic, I would register her and the Italia in Italy. The rest would be flagged in Panama, like the original Home Lines' ships.

Without any hesitation I would revive Sitmar Cruises and Royal Viking Line.

However, to take wishful thinking to another level, I would not merely want thier old ships- but want to create a completely modern cruise line with new ships- built in the style and spirit of those two great cruise lines.

Seawind Cruise Line

I would revive that line with the Seawind Crown. This was really a decent company. I had booked many passengers on that little ship out of Aruba and not one person ever had anything negative to say about the ship or the line.

I agree Seawind Cruise line was good and the ship was great. I would like to see Premier come back too, if only for a sail on the Rembrandt. I love that ship.

All very good ideas! Polish Ocean Lines, interesting, from the photos Stefan Batory looked like a nice ship. I would also consider reviving Premier, or create a whole new family cruise line with a slightly more mass market image, rather than that of a budget cruise line. As some less signifigant lines fold, you never no there may sometime soon be room for them, and we'd just need someone with the mind and the money to give it to us.

[QUOHomeric Lines Original Westerdam TE] [/QUOTE]

The name of the Line was HOME Lines and the original ship was the Homeric. When HAL bought her they changed it to the Westerdam.

We saw the Homeric on her maiden voyage in St. Thomas while we were on a HAL ship, and then later sailed on the Westerdam before and after stretch.

I just thought of an idea for a hybrid ICI, Home Lines, family cruise line. It would have all Italian built flagged ships, with 2 recreations of Home Lines ships and three recreations of Italian Lines' ships. It would combine Italian style for adults, with excellent family entertainment with out comprimising service, food, and beautiful interiors.
Fleet roster would like like this:
Christoforo Colombo: 7 day Western Mediterranean Cruises from Genoa, as well as seasonal 7 day S. America cruises. Original speed and statistics of Christofor Colombo, with slightly altered interiors and layout.(Interiors changed to meet SOLAS) 2 Diesel Electric Dolphin pods capable of 23 knots.

G.T.S. Michelangelo
Recreation of original with Gas turbine powerplant and 3 Dolphin Pods. Speeds of 26.5 knots. Slightly altered layout and interiors. Year round NY to Eastern Caribbean visiting Tortola, St. Maarten, and St. Thomas and Western Caribbean Visiting Key West, Grand Caymen, and San Salvador, Bahamas.

New Rex
76,593 gross tons
1,320 ft long
144 ft beam
Speed: 29 knots
Gas turbines and four Dolphin pods. Med. cruises from Genoa visiting Rome, Capri, Sardinia, Valleta, and Nice. Also seasonal 7 day Eastern/ Western Caribbean cruises from Ft. Lauderdale visiting Progreso, Grand Caymen, Tortola, and Nassau. Interiors blend Classical and Modern Italian design.

M.S. Italia
Recreation of Italia with Modern Italian interior design. New layout. Diesel Electric Engines with 2 Dolphin pods, capable of 25 knots. Charleston to Grand Caymen and Key West 5 day cruises alternating with 4 day cruises to Nassau and San Salvador. Seasonal 7 day Cruises to Bermuda and Bahamas.

G.T.S. Oceania
Recreation of Oceanic with original interiors. Gas turbines with 3 Dolphin pods, capable of 27 knots. 7 day cruises to Italian ports from Genoa to Venice, calling at Livorno, Sardinia, Palmero, Naples, and Bari. Includes free transfers back to Genoa at end of cruise. Seasonal Bahamas and Bermuda cruises.

I hope you like it. It wouldn't really be a full revival, but it could make a pretty competive cruise line if executed well.

I would settle for any cruise line that could Clone the Hormeric (before the great stretch). and the Westerdam (After the stretch) and clone the Rotterdam V intact. (without its horrible disastrous AC system.) In a perfect world, I would afford to hop on any of these three or hopefully buy time shares. Dream on......

Good question. My answer is plain and simple. I'd revive them all and put people in there who know the business and not rip off the creditors. As that is what happened with a couple of the cruise lines on the list.

Home Lines. I wouldn't revive Premier unless they changed their approach. Nothing else. But I would use the Enchanted Isle and Enchanted Capri for a new US Cruise Line, that is high class. Does anybody have deckplans of those ships?

I would bring back Dolphin Cruises. They had very nice ships: Dolphin IV, SeaBreeze, OceanBreeze and IslandBreeze. The food and service were very good. We also enjoyed their interesting itineraries. All this was very reasonably priced.

Wait! I'll use the Enchanted Capri and the two SeaAmerica Ships on Coastal Cruises in Florida, California, Hawaii, and Colonial America.

American Voyager(Enchanted Capri). Hawaii(8 Days from Hilo, to Honolulu, Kauhuli, Molokai, and Nawiliwili. Overnight in Honolulu and Kuaii during winter) In summer, Coastal cruises from California. (7 Days from San Diego to LA, Santa Barbara, Monterey, Eureka, San Francisco.

American Spirit. Colonial America Cruises from New York. (14 Days to Boston(Overnight), Oak Bluffs, Newport, New London, Philadelphia, Norfolk, Washington D.C.(Overnight, will dock at Naval Yard, passengers have the option of disembarking at Norfolk, taking in a tour of Williamsburg or Newport NEws, than riding to Washington). More to come soon.

I would revive...
American Hawaii Cruises.
I would start out with the Indy doing the same itinerary as she was doing before AHC(AMCV) went backrupt. The Big U, doing trans-pacific cruises using San Fran has homeport #1 and Honolulu as homeport #2. the i would build 2/3 ships
900 - 1200 passengers
(Empress of the Pacific,
Empress of the Aloha,
and maybe the
Empress of XXXX(not sure yet, any ideas?))
Then i would do 10-11 night voyages around Hawaii.

Reviving the Royal Rotterdam Lloyd and there old liner service to Indonesia as cruise destination. The ships with names as Willem Ruys, Dempo, Baloeran and Indrepoera (the 3 last ships named by the vulcano´s of Indonesia and Willem Ruys after a director killed by the nazi´s). The ships are in the intermadiate range of around 35.000 tons and a passenger load off around 750 passengers. With a crew of around 750.
The line ran a service between Rotterdam and Indonesia and back the old route from Royal Rotterdam Lloyd. also the ships take round the world cruises from Rotterdam and Back. Later the ships make cruises to other destinations around the world. the ships wold operate at the premium marked (Holland america, P and O, cunard etc.)
