Hello all, I was just going over my cruise documents for Statendam on 12/22 and in the "Know befor you go" booklet on page 43 it informs passengers that HAL now sets up an email account for every guest on the ship. It is your first initial+last name+your (4) digit cabin number+"shipmane".cruisemail.net. Wow, I think that is great. Are other lines doing this? My last HAL cruise did not offer this. Also there is no charge to the guest. How long has this been a service on HAL ships?
Richard

Actually, I suspect the folks at cruisemail.net probably have a serious filter (or maybe even a person) checking the messages before they are forwraded to the ship. It could get expensive otherwise.

I know that Cunard offers this service. It's really quite nice. The e-mails are printed and delivered to your cabin -- kind of like telegrams from long ago. Cunard doesn't charge for the e-mail, but does for replies.

When my friend sailed on the Marco Polo a few years ago, they also had this system, however, none of her e-mails were delivered to her.
Guess it does have some disadvantages. Why not use a HotMail or Yahoo account - much easier.

According to the "Know Before You Go" book, they print your emails and dliver to cabin free. If you want to reply then there is a charge. Do I sound cheap or what? Anyway thanks for your replies. I'll let you know how it is. With all the sea days, I'm sure I'll log on here and let you know how it's going.
