Me, my husband, and four daughters are sailing on Royal Caribbean's Radiance of the Sea on Jan. 2, 2005, going to Coco Cay, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten. We have cruised every year for years, but have never felt the need for a passport. Two of our daughters have passports due to the fact that they cruised to Barbados in March and were told to get them- even though they didn't really need them- should we all have passports for this next cruise? I don't want to spend the $ right now, but will. Thanks!!

I'm a great fan of passports. Especially because once you get one, you'll feel the urge to use it in places for which you must have one. The absence of a passport will never again be an inhibition or deterrent in your choice of where to go. And travel broadens minds and expands horizons, and gives one a better view of the entire world. That can never be a bad thing!

I agree, passports are great and I believe that all Americans should be required to have them in order to travel abroad. It's your proof of citizenship in the US....

The passport should be the way the government tracks who is in or out of the country...cause at least with airlines flying internationally, they scan your passport barcode to "check you out" of the US, and immigration where you land scans it to check you in....and vice versa. The cruise industry does not do this as of yet, but I think they should make it a mandatory issue for nothing more than security stakes...

Always usse a passport on foraign travel. Not only foraign countrys demant that, without passport they refuse the antrence to there country.

Its possible that you are able to enter a country without a passport. buth than you must have one with you fore indentification whene ask by the autorities. No passport big problems.

Fore some country's you need a visa ask your travel agent ore line iff you need one on your travel / cruise.

Exemple:

Fore some ports as st' Petersburg Russia its possible that the line arrenged a cruise visa. that mean you are able leave ship only with arrenged tours booked on the ship. This visa aloud you ashore fore the time off the tour. You cane arenge a personal visa at the ambassede so you are able to leave the ship on your own whene you want.

So my advice take a passport with you.

In this day and age, I believe everyone should possess a passport. It's the best form of ID and proof of citizenship you can carry. If you do any traveling at all, it should be #1 on your list of priorities to carry one.

You just never know when you might have to suddenly leave the country. You could win a trip to Europe that leaves in one week. Without a passport you would be SOL.

Spend the money and get yourself one. It's a solid investment.

A passport is also a great back up in case your primary form (usually a driver's license) of photo ID gets lost or stolen. Even if you're traveling within the US, imagine having your wallet stolen the morning you're going to fly someplace!
