On the Spanish cruise forum is a news clip today, stating:-
"According to www.hosteltur.com, the president of Spanair & the biggest shareholder of Pullmantur, the industralist Paschal Gonzalo & his partner Gerald Diaz have announced the purchase of the 5th ship for the company.

The identity of the ship has not been revealed & sources at the company have not been able to provide InfoCruceros.com with any details other than it will join the fleet next year."

Bye Oceanic?

Perhaps
According to that spanish cruiseforum, the "Oceanic" has had serious engine troubles lately, and will be shortly out of service for urgent repairs. Passengers have been changed to the Holiday Dream (which does the same itinerary but in opposite direction)
However, there has always been speculation Pullmanturs would acquire the "Mistral", and Pulmanturs seems to be very succesfull...

It is al very uncertain.

Glad I sailed on her without problems (although we were 5hrs late on sailing out of Barcelona at the beginning)

I also heard that Pullmantur was interested in MSC's Melody.
but again, it was speculation.

hi all!

I'm the webmaster of the Spanish site www.infocruceros.com

This is my first post in this forums and i want ask you for patience with my english...

Let me say... i think 5th ship for Pullmantur doesn't mean "bye Oceanic", the spanish fast-growing market requires more and more ships.

But, the problem is that Oceanic have serios problems with one engine and electric systems. It will stop one week to urgent repairs and go again... There is scheduled annual maintenance on January-February 2005.

I think for Pullmantur is more urgent sell the Pacific and have a bigger ship on the caribbean than sell the Oceanic.

Do you think that Pullmantur would move the Pacific to the Med, and then keep the Holiday Dream and perhaps another ship in the caribbean?

As my Spanish forum mates just pointed out, a new ship will bring new options and no any phase out. Stil unknown where the Pacific will go next term. Right now she has been chartered to a Brazilian company for seasonal cruises over there. It´s too soon to know which vessel will be incorporated, I seriously doubt that Mistral will end in their hands since she has many other offers. So lets wait. The Pacific is definitely too small for the Med in which there are huge flows of passengers.

Thank you Infocruceros for the information. One never hears much about what is happening with Pacific or how her cruises go. I hope they manage to solve the engine/elec problems on Oceanic.
The Spanish market seems to be gowing in leaps & bounds. Only a few years ago we heard little about it at all. Now there is no escaping

Would 2 ships in the Caribbean be too many? Or is it better for one larger one? Our seas will soon be saturated with ships. The Med if fast becoming as 'clogged' as the Caribbean Islands, but at least the cities can absorb the extra influx of people on a daily basis better than a small island.

Iberian Cruiser, where are the Mistral offers from? I have heard an Iberojet rumour, is that viable?

Off the subject - I saw the Iberostar's Gand Latino in Barcelona and I have to say that their livery is very smart!

Pacific do a good bussines for Pullmantur in the Caribbean. Pullmantur have his own 747 and use it to cross the atlantic with the cruisers. Prices start in 800euros flight included!!

But, Pacific is the Pullmantur worst ship and smaller (from the spaniard point of view), they need a better player in the caribbean to attract past guest who have sailed before in the Oceanic or R5 or R6. On the other side, most people looks here at northern europe as the future destination for spanish companies (Costa Atlantica was a success). I think they want two or three ships in the Med, one on the Northern europe, and one in the Caribbean.

Yes, Iberojet is betting hard for Mistral, and, until Friday, they had all the cards to buy it, but, what if Mr. Pascual did a best deal in the last minute and get the ship?

My 'inside information' from MSC Australia (only yesterday) is that they are keeping Melody. She is to be stretched slightly (whatever slightly is ?), some balconies added and a major refurbishment.

Sorry I can't reveal who gives me the 'inside information' at MSC...I know it irks some posters on this forum - but it is very reliable. No doubt MSC will make an announcement soon?

I'm somewhat surprised, given that MSC has been buying up ex-Festival and ex-Royal Olympic ships, but no doubt Melody has a loyal following. Aponte doesn't seem to put a foot wrong these days.

Oh no....I hope the "stretch" will not ruin the MELODY...

I don't think MSC has picked up ex. ROC ships or will?

Keitaro - I agree! Also hope Melody is not ruined by the (slight) stretch. Maybe it is only to accomodate the few balconies being added?

Trying to imagine what she'll look like

Pullmantur also bought DELPHIN RENAISSANCE from CruiseInvest. The vessel will start sailing for them on June 04th in the Baltic Sea. Her new name will be R7 BLUE MOON.

Why not rename Pacific Sky as "Blue Sky" and keep the naming system going? That way the line would have:

Blue Dream
Blue Moon
Blue Sky

Sky Wonder just doesn't make sense. At least my old Sitmar friend will continue her career with "Sky" still in her name. After four name changes that is rather surprising.
