Congratulations, Rob.

I saw many young Officers on the Westerdam last week. One of the formal nights Northern Lights (disco) was jumping and there were quite a few of them in there having a great time....lots of young good looking young ladies on board for Xmas.

Please, do let us know which ship you will be on as you never know, I may just be on the same ship.

Good Luck.

Diane

Rob - many congratulations! What a wonderful start to the New Year for you.

Yes, do let us know which ship you will be assigned to. If you happen to be aboard Rotterdam 29 April out of Venice - keep an eye out for this CT'er!

Congratulations Rob.

You do realise, I hope, that in a few years time you will have to reserve places at your Captain's Table for us humble Cruise-Talkers.

Thanks again for all the very friendly reactions!
In April, we'll be informed about which ships the cadets will be on. I'm hoping for the MS Rotterdam, or, the MS Amsterdam. But ofcourse, all HAL-vessels are great to be on and I'm sure there's a lot to learn onboard! But for now, 1/2 year learning at school is ahead of me!

Kind regards,

Rob

PS Henri, I will say hi to them for you! Greetings

Congratulations Rob.

What are you studying? What department is your posting to? Deck, Navigation, Engineering, Hotel?

We've been at an officer's table a few times but the best hosts, by a long way, were a couple of young engineering cadets who were thrown in "at the deep end" to take the officers place. We all had a ball. Too much wine, too much port, too many liquers. Last out of the dining room, last out of the disco. Spent the engineering dept budget for the next month.

My study is called "Maritime Officer", and it is both engineering as navigating. This is the standard for Dutch nautical studies. So actually you can be both (officer or technician). There are also companies, P&O Nedlloyd for example, that combine both professions onboard, although HAL sails with engineers -or- officers. The onboard period will feature 6 weeks bridge/deck/ 6 weeks engine room during a half year.
