From Carnival:

NEW HOW-TO BOOK FOR MAKING POPULAR STATEROOM ‘TOWEL ANIMALS’

NOW AVAILABLE FROM CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES

‘Carnival Towel Creations’ Provides Step-By-Step Instructions and Photos For Making More Than 40 Different Creatures

MIAMI (February 9, 2005) – One of the many popular and unique features of a Carnival “Fun Ship” cruise is the whimsical “towel animals” that greet guests when they return to their stateroom each evening.

Now there’s a new instructional book offering step-by-step directions, along with accompanying photos for guests wishing to recreate these creatures back home.

“Carnival Towel Creations” is filled with colorful images and easy-to-follow instructions for making a wide variety of “towel animals” like those created each night by the line’s stateroom stewards for guests’ enjoyment.

These truly creative designs often incorporate guests' sunglasses, hats or other accessories and people genuinely look forward to the surprise each evening, particularly children.

Instructions for more than 40 different designs -- everything from cats and dogs to dinosaurs, elephants and snails -- are featured within the colorful 88-page publication.

“Our guests have been asking for years for a manual on how to make ‘towel animals’ at home. 'Carnival Towel Creations' will not only bring enjoyment to the many people who have sailed on Carnival over the years but also anyone interested in an easy instructional guide for creating these fun, whimsical creatures,” said Carnival President and CEO Bob Dickinson.

“Towel animals” are one of Carnival’s signature elements and are even featured in the line’s new national television advertising campaign.

The line’s staterooms stewards undergo more than 10 hours of training to learn how to create the various designs and it is estimated that the stewards create some seven million “towel animals” each year.

The “towel animals” are just one of the many personal touches available within Carnival’s staterooms, which in addition to being as much as 50 percent larger than those on other contemporary cruise ships, offer in-stateroom amenities baskets and upgraded linens and towels. Guests in balcony and ocean view accommodations are also provided with plush terrycloth robes.

“Carnival Towel Creations” is available in the “Formalities” shops or from the stateroom stewards aboard the line’s 20 “Fun Ships.”

The cost is $12.95.

What I want to know is whether the book tells you the optimum tip that will encourage the cabin steward to stop wasting his time on this frivolity and spend it on cleaning my cabin a bit more.

Why does Carnival annexe this custom as "uniquely" theirs : on my 2001 Nile cruise ona Egyptian owned and crewed cruises, this was done once or twice (and the stewards were looking smiling behind their door if it would create an affect - it was all good humour).

It is all about commercialising also this feature.

Most cruise line stewards seem to do this today. The 1st time I saw it was on Princess years ago. Now all Carnival Corp. brands seem to do. It does make many passengers feel 'special' though and is a nice touch to come back to the cabin and see. But a book??

Nore strange that on my 2000 Costa east sea cruise this figure folding was not done whitte towels. Buth whitte oure night dresses. Now i don't own one. Buth some in oure group dith, and every night it was a sport to go see what the cabin steward have fabricated this time. I don't no this happen in every cabin, because some in oure group dith not find there nighty's folded in fun figures.

Greatings Ben.

Someone now iff Holland America do this. i now frome historic resorses that they always hung there towels in a special way. former cabin crew always refer it the HAL way, always difficult.

One of the animals was strange....we debated what it was meant to be.

On Celebrity, the booklet from the napkin folding seminar was FREE :-) Now I can do the Bishop's Hat at home.

I've never had a 'towel animal' on a HAL ship - and I really don't want one! That my steward brings me extra towels or whatever as requested, makes my bed and keeps the cabin clean and tidy, is quite enough for me.

In many upscale Caribbean island hotels, the 'art', animals, flowers etc. is practiced - cute, yes! but I've no desire to pay for it and most certainly don't tip extra because of it.................

You can play them at thier own game.

On one of my cruises,I had these animals appearing every night........

So next night I arranged the towelling robe....
stuffed with pillows ...on the bed.
Made a head with the cushions, put a hat on it and covered the face with sunglasses......
so that it looked like someone was in the bed.....

The staff really enjoyed it,as they were not sure if I had gone to dinner,or was taking a nap........
