Is it, like Carnival, which, thouchg listed on stock exchanges, is very much a family affair, with strong personal influences.
Or is it totally made out of anonymous shareholders, many of them institutional like pensionfunds.
That kind of owners look, imo, much more to the bottomline, and don't let emotions or nostalgia play a role.
After all, if the reports of 'Norway' being sent to Singapore are true, NCL/Star will have three major classic liners idling away on "quays of oblivion" all over the world, and this for over many years all ready.
Something says to me that at the decision making heart of its owners, there is someone who can't decide to really put the stop on them, who is emotionally tied to the concept of a classic liner.
Or is this "psychology of the cold earth" ?
Still, who is 'Star' ?

I don’t think they have any interest in liners. The only reason they bought Independence and United States was to get with of the only ships that could start to trade on the Hawaii route.
I´m sure you never will see them sailing again.
Even if you wanted the new SOLAS will make a renovation of Independence extremely expensive, for example all flame proof isolation has to be changed
