Carnival's new Port of Miami piers are coming along nicely. While different than Royal Caribbean's design, they none the less look impressive. Carnival will move all it's Miami operations to these piers when completed, and NCL will take over the old Carnival facilities at Pier 8 & 9.

Great pictures there Ernie! The terminal's design is quite impressive and "different" - not dull (like their ships !).

When will these two terminals be completed and fully operational? I see that the CARNIVAL VALOR is docked there already.....

Are these the same piers where the NORWAY infamous boilers blew while docked? It must be quite hecktic for NCL being moved around!

CARNIVAL VALOR is actually berthed at Terminal 8, although her aft end can be seen in front of the new terminal. Carnival's new terminals will be called Terminal D and E.

Terminal 1 (where NORWAY used to dock) has been torn down and one of Carnival's new terminals is being built in it's place. I believe the original Pier 2 is still in place and used currently by NCL.

I'm not certain when the new Carnival terminals will be completed, but judging from the construction so far, I would say this Fall.

All the Miami piers are being renamed as follows:

Terminal 9 = Terminal B
Terminal 8 = Terminal C
Terminal 10 = no change
Terminal 2 = no change
Terminal 3 = Terminal F
Terminal 5 = Terminal G
Terminal 6/7 = Terminal H
Terminal 12 = Terminal J

As you can see, there is no longer a Pier 1.

Does NCL plan on revamping the old Carnival Piers?

So the order with generally be NCL, Carnival in the middle, then Royal Carib?

Exactly.

I have no idea what NCL's plans are for Carnival's old piers. I have a feeling not very much will be done to them as they are adequate to handle NCL size ships with ease. Carnival really needed to upgrade it's facilities to handle the 100,000+ gt ton ships and of course Pinnacle Project which is in the works.

Stephen Payne told me last week on QM2 that the Pinnacle Project has been put on the back burner for now, but he expects it is just a matter of time before Carnival procedes with it. I think they are probably revamping the onboard facilities and "gimmicks."

if pinnacle is on the back burner... what is on the front burner?

are they still planning a new class for HAL?

because nothing is new on the newbuild slate for Carnival Corp at the moment.... they are only building variations of the Destiny, Vista and Grand at the moment...

Living in Miami has it's advantages...especially in being able to see on a regular basis the progress on the new piers at Dodge Island. The two new piers are relatively small in size...and from the looks of it, they will have extented walkways going out from both sides of the main building for passengers to walk to the gangways.

As I stated, the buildings are small, so I wonder how crowded it will be for luggage claiming on disembarkation...no warehouses are built next to the new buildings. The piers are very "glass" rich...so you'll be able to see the ship once you get into the terminal...it's going to cost them a mint to keep the AC cool inside with all those windows....

I hope that before NCL takes over the current Carnival terminals they do a massive makeover...those are the worst embarkation terminals ever....it's like a maze and the decor is typical Carnival.

Does anyone know when the expected completion date is?
