Funny thing statistics, you can interpret them in many in ways. I read the above as 76% of UK cruise passengers are over 44. This ONLY represents a 7% reduction in a decade. Hence: UK cruising still appeals mainly to the elderly.
I had not quite realised that Britain was the second biggest cruise market. However, it is pretty clear that the UK Cruise market is growing, just look at the expanding P&O feet, for example. RCI, Celebrity, and Princess, to name a few, are now bringing their big ships to our shores.
Owning both Cunard and P&O, Carnival must have a large slice of that 36%?
However, I believe UK cruising still only represents about 5% of all holidays taken. There would appear to be more room for growth to come.

When i went to the QE2 in april, it cost me about 130 EUR to get me from Antwerpen to Southampton by train (local train, Eurostar, English train) (return). It took me about 6hours Antwerpen Centraal/Southampton Central. (+ 10mins either end house/station - station/ship.)
Luckily the Eurostar arrives in Waterloo stations, some platforms away where the train to Southampton starts.
I did consider it no big problem, but should i think otherwise ? Is it too far ?
