Anyone cruised with them? I'm interested specifically in the Calypso.

I cruised in 2004 on an 11 Night Cruise in the Eastern Med.

It was an good Experience, the Ship is rated 2 Stars and an Plus and you can expect an good
Quality for this Rating.

The Food was prepared fresh on Board and tasty,
not such precooked from landside Items than on Ships with Zerbone/Zernave Catering like MSC and Costa.

Service was adequate as are the Cabins.

The Ship was little old (1967) and needs Renovation, which is done last Winter.

The Price was very low and it was always worth the Money.

The Routing was very good, interesting Destinations, an friendly Crew.

I would book again Louis.

Amerikanis: Thank you for your response. I believe the Calyspo was refurbished not too long ago.

One question - how formal/informal was it?

Very informal.

It is an Cruiseline, which is specially for Families with Kids, they offer good Rates or for free for Kids.

If you want more formal than take HAL, Celebrity, Cunard or something like them.

If through one of the Canadian tours with a land portion too Green? There seem to be a lot of these. It also appears that whatever ship is booked, true to form, you may well end up on any of Calypso, Coral, Perla, Triton or even Serenade or a mix of two.

Calypso sailed for Caspi last year and elad has a collection from last year from here. Onboard services are probably not the same now though.

Opinions of these Louis cruises vary from horrendous to excellent to so-so, and if you're used to huge Caribbean ships you may be disappointed in the lack of onboard facilities.. but with such port intensive itineries you are not on the ship for long. Food comments vary from great to awful. So really there is nothing much to go on! Most people seem to have however enjoyed the overall experience/holiday as really the destinations were the reason for the trip in the first place, not the actual cruise aspect.

Regarding the food on Louis,

During a 2-day cruise to Egypt the food was not as "Mediterranean" as expected. Because of the small duration of the cruise, the food was buffet style for both nights and most dishes were standard and repeated.

I 've been on two 5-day cruises where the food was excellent. The menu was 100% Mediterranean and was prepared fresh every day.
Do not expect the usual "expensive" stuff that you may get on big lines (lobster, etc) - in any case - the true Mediterranean cuisine tends to be simple, very tasty and not expensive at all.

Be aware that from 23 Sept. the cruises of CALYPSO will be carried out by SERENADE, as CALYPSO is chartered out for a not disclosed charterer, maybe Caspi again?

SERENADE I cruised on in 2003 for 3 nights. Food was good, and I was absolutely thrilled by the old world ambiance of the ship. But you have to be a ship lover to appreciate her. Best on Louis Cruise ships is the evenig show. I have been on 3 cruises with them, and in this respect was never disappointed.
