Personally I don't expect any major changes or exciting developments, as the cruise lines seem to have run out of new ports and new things to do with their ships...stuck in a rut so to speak.

From the US persective I get a feeling that the big story for next summer and presumably the one after that is the increase in deployment to Europe. But for those of us in Europe, it's just more of the same-old same-old.
At least it inceases competition here and maybe will reduce prices.
In my opinion the Mediterranean has many fascinating ports of call, all mainly cities, with endless tourist possibilities. There is little danger of them being swamped by cruise ships, unlike many Caribbean islands.
The itineraries offered should come as a welcome contrast for American’s bored with the Caribbean. I also welcome the choice and hope it generates some competition.

I also distinctly remember not too long in the past terrorist actions in the Med causing the cruise lines to pull their ships or drastically alter itineraries. I think they remember that too, and the potential that SE Asia and the Eastern Med still may have for the same problems, and may be overly cautious in putting too many big eggs in one basket.
It would only take one incident and Americans will jump back in line for that $699 Western Caribbean cruise they said they would "never" do again...
The key will be for cruise lines to offer 'packages' with attractively price flights included.
In some cases (to some destinations) the cruise lines air-paclages cost more than booking your own flights on-line. That's greed on the cruise lines behalf.

That's a risk with all destinations, not just the far east. If terrorists blew up a caribbean Island, bookings would plummet there too. Remember, the Far East is NOT the same as the Middle East!
I can see big growth for Far easter cruises, but particularly from Europeans who are possibly more adventerous and more used to long-hual holidays.
