Does anyone know if it is possible for Americans to book a cruise on Pullmantur? Their website is confusing, but does have an english-language option. I can't find a travel agent who has ever heard of them, let alone get a price or schedule.

Why should it be impossible? Either 'instruct' your travel agent what you want or get directly in contact with them - which probalby means that you have to organize flights etc. on your own. (which is also easily possible)

Gosh, Ernst, never thought of that.
Seriously, Pullmantur's cruise website (at least the english version) contains no contact information, prices, dates, anything. Here in the great white north, unless its Carnival, RCCL or Princess, travel agents have never heard of it. So I searched the web for an internet agent that represents Pullmantur in the USA. No luck, unless you hablas Espanol. Two semesters in high school won't cut it. I tried. So, still looking for suggestions.....
While I'm at it, I want to sail on the Holiday Dream from Cozumel to Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cuba. Two agencies of my government tell me that it is illegal for Americans to go to Cuba, but my understanding is that its not illegal to go, only illegal to spend money. On an all-inclusive cruise, it would not be difficult to avoid spending money in Cuba. Any American's tried this and managed to avoid prison or the threatened $17,500 fine?

It is also illegal for American Citizens to spend money on getting to Cuba. The "fully hosted" loop hole which was used a few years ago to get around this ban, has now been closed by the PTB & any "fully hosted" trip that is clearly for pleasure or tourism is in violation of the regulations, read here - sorry about that.. it is quite crazy imho...one of the reasons Costa had to pull out when Carnival took them over.

Regarding Pullmantur for Americans, there is a US Travel Agent who deals with them, here, but the last time I looked the prices were very high. For through the UK call +44 1285 711414 or visit www.dreamcruise.co.uk . I have used a Belgian TA and others Dutch TAs, all speak good English.

The website Cruceromania linked to is the one I use to keep abreast of the Spanish market.. lots of good offers appear and I did get a reply in English to a query I had last year, so perhaps they can assist. It is easy enoguh to do your own flights/hotel etc.

I have very good memories of my cruise on the Oceanic. Here's my album.

It is rumoured 2006 will be her last season.

Prices in EUR are certainly on the spanish version of the pullmantur website. Taxes and gratuities are not included. Oceanic is now "all inclusive". That was not on my cruise.

Pam, if i may ask :was this worthwile/pleasant/easyJ it was not abused by the passengers ?

I hope you succeed.

J

it's very unfortunate that american's can't visit a beautiful country such as cuba......i guess when it come's to the leader of a country telling it's people what they can and can't do outside.....that's sad......try flying to mexico, buy a ticket to cuba from there.......jeff

Traveling to a third country doesn't solve the problem, unfortunately. The US government has covered the bases. A special license is required for an American citizen to spend money (from any country) in Cuba, or for travel to Cuba. The license is granted in only limited circumstances for limited reasons.
Not that I would EVER try to circumvent a law, but it seems to me that IF I could book on Pullmantur, I'd be paying for a cruise, not for travel specifically to Cuba. Because the cruise is all-inclusive, what could I possibly need to spend money on in Cuba? I'll keep everyone posted on how this all works out. I understand Federal prisons have internet access nowadays.

Sorry for trivializing your problem - sometimes people ask very simple to awnser questions without having the obviouse awnser.

Holiday Dream being the former Europa was/is one of my favourite ships! Sadly she has been altered and some of the nice features are gone (like the theater) - also, the atmosphere aboard is different now - nevertheless, I guess she is still nice and the itinerary sounds very interesting. I also had an eye on it. (...I nevertheless can not do it now - you should really investigate this 'Cuba business'....)
