The "new" P&O Cruises website is up and running. It's definitely not the old and stodgy P&O we have come to know and love (or hate). Dare I say P&O is trying to be fresh and trendy ... and maybe trying a little too hard??

Most of their passengers are hardly fresh or trendy, unless 'socks with sandels' become in vouge.

The functionality (cruise search etc.) and ease of use seem very good.

Looks very ameateur to me.

Don't really like the new identity one bit, but the movie in the centre of the page is nice.

Overall...

There are better webpages out there - but I do not see why this new P&O wepage is sooo much worse those of other cruise lines. (...whereof I dislike many....)

I wish they would fix it too, so that it is viewable without endless scrolling in anything other than IE..

On "cruised before" there is also some video thing off to the left, which one can only see the control panel for in Opera.. goodness knows where the rest of it is. Think they need to do a bit or work on the site.

You will be able to check the Carnival, Cunard, HAL, Costa and Princess sites in the future, they will all have the same ships.

Their existing passengers sure, but their target passengers - that is a different question. Overall take a step back and relate that website to the fleet. It is much more in tune with the modernity and style of Arcadia than Oriana and Aurora don't you think? I wonder how much further P&O will pursue such thinking....

Yes, they are trying to encourgae new business but in doing so risk alienating the grey pound, who must make up the majority of thee passenger base, surely?

I guess it depends where they are going. If they want to be the UK Princess or RCCL then grey aint gonna matter. Switch the traditional ships to Cunard and the market can go there too, still within the family.

The site is ok--nothing special. The worst cruise line web site title still belongs to NCL. I would rather they rebuild that site than rebuild the Big U.

I am not a big fan of the site as yet - but will need more time to explore it.

I found it hard finding ship specific information. I did find it eventually. I feel P&O is going the wrong way trying to promote "holidays" and avoid the ship issues. The main reason people go on a cruise is to be on ships and people want to know a bit about the ships. To me it is pointless trying to market cruise holidays to people who would never consider travelling on a ship.

With regards to the new identity and logo. Why the change to something similar? could it be that when P&O merged with Carnival they lost the copyright to their old logos?

Lastly I think P&O is being very foolish in their marketing strategy. For example the new Arcadia is being promoted by them as "modern and contemporary" they try to promote new age ideas and programs on its cruises. There is one major problem with that. They have made the ship an adult only ship, shifted the age range of the ship up and they only get older passengers not interested in modern and contemporary cruising ideas.

If they wanted to promote Arcadia as modern and contemporary they should never have made the ship adult only and that would have attracted the younger market. I feel a ship like Oriana would be better suited to an adult only program as it already attracts older passengers.

Your wish will come true a little later this year. NCL will introduce a brand new state of the art website in the Fall. It promises to be very innovative just like their new ships. In fact you will be able to make all your specialty restaurant dinner reservations in advance right from the website. Also look for new interactive features concerning the revamping of the Latitudes past passenger club. New benefits and different levels.

The ship fleets are under "Cruised Before" then "Our Ships".

Well the new site sure is different!!

Still havn't been right through it but have seen a couple of BLARING mistakes like the following GAF!

You can see it on the site here:
http://www.pocruises.co.uk/artemis/index.aspx

quote:
Welcome on board Artemis

Artemis joined the P&O Cruises fleet in June 2005. She was previously named Sea Princess and sailed with P&O Cruises sister company, Princess Cruises. Her arrival was heralded with a naming ceremony with a difference. For she was the very first ship in British history to be named at sea.

Previously named SEA PRINCESS?? These people are meant to know ships...

Adonia was Sea Princess and they have handed her back!!!

Overall though i think it is an improvement over the old site, although i agree it is a silly move trying to make the ships "secondary" when they are trying to sell a "Holiday"... The ship is a MAJOR part of the holiday if you go on a cruise!!!

P&O like Carnival, RCI and NCL want to attract the younger set who probably has little interest in the ship at all.

Lets not forget that RCI's 'Navigator' will be operating from Southampton in 2007. Velebrity have a ship at Dover. It's only a matter of time before NCL send a newbuild to operate from Dover, too.

Strangely Cunard seem in competition with P&O to me, although both owned by Carnival.

To me it is pointless trying to market cruise holidays to people who would never consider travelling on a ship.

Carnival became the No.1 doing EXACTLY that.

However you may be right and P&O may be wrong. P&O do have a pretty mature passenger base, so I'm not sure if their strategy will work with us Brits who have tended to be more 'traditional' in our cruise outlook.

I would not say that people do not care about the ship. Being on a ship IS the main feature of a cruise holiday - 'they' just do not care about such 'unimportant details' like which ship they are on. Or are there differences between the ships from a certain line?
