Hey, did anyone see CSI Miami on May 1. It was about murders on a cruise ship docked in Miami and had lots of scenes on ships. Any thoughts about where it was filmed. It looks like multiple sources. My guesses-
I think the ship board scenes may have been filmed on the Queen Mary in Long Beach because of the red (orange) funnels and the Lifeboats at the top of the ship, rather than in lower promenade deck of newer ships. Does anyone recognize the hallway scenes? But, there was lots of stock footage of Miami including the Norway (used often on CSI-Miami) which was also used in a computer graphic. I could be wrong, maybe they went to Germany to film on the Norway. In addition I think the opening scene of the man drowning may have been filmed in Miami on a newer ship. The stock footage also had Carnival and Royal Caribbean ships and the killer said she climbed a rock wall, which would have to be a Royal Caribbean. Lots of poetic licence taken in show like American Officers and lack of servicing barges. At the site of the initial murder, at the side of the ships docking at 6AM, there is usually barges unloading garbage and loading/unloading supplies and equipment.

Any more comments?

It was filmed on the Queen Mary in Long Beach. They did show some footage of the Norway and I believe a fly over of a Carnival ship.

I love when these TV shows use stock footage of four completely different ships when they are depicting one ship. I remember an old 'Laverne and Shirley' show that had the two ladies go on a Great Lakes cruise. Their were exterior shots of an American President liner departing the pier (either the Wilson or Cleveland), a nightime shot of a Princess Cruises ship (either the Island or Pacific Princess) taken from the Love Boat TV show also on ABC at that time and a close-up of one of Normandie's funnels w/her steam whistle blowing. I forgot the fourth ship they used but again it was a completely different ship from another era.

Great. That's real believable when it's CSI: Miami.

Obviously, the producers figure most people won't notice. That's where we come in.

Previous CSI series often showed stock footage of the SS Norway berthed at Miami, long after she had gone on her journey to Alang.

Cheap way out for them, or maybe someone in production is a nostalgic.

The amusing thing that I love about CSI is that they use our instruments on their show - Perkinelmer. We have a large photo in our hallway with the cast standing next to one of our instruments.

So when you see them looking into microscopes, pushing buttons on any instrument, etc, its ours. We get a kick out of it.

I saw that episode too. Knew it was only a matter of time before they did the "George" episode. The computer generated search of the ship "Norway" that showed when the key cards were used was farfetched. The gril who said she lost her cabin card, then it was in her purse afterall, and the rock climbing reference (had to be RCI of course), so maybe the general public is not as smart as we are.

And why does David Caruso wear a black suit in the Miami heat and not sweat. I do like the show. Like a modern Miami Vice. I still have my white linen sport coat. Now Don Johnson knew how to dress. Caruso is not dressed for the weather. But he always saves the girl in the end.

There are some similarities, but I prefer Miami Vice. I also have the white linen sports coat. I also have various trousers to go with them and the white mocassins. I was nostalgic and I kept the whole lot. Will they ever come back into fashion? Very doubtful. Unfortunately never had the money to get the Ferrari... I don't think Caruso be the same if he wore light coloured clothes. Maybe they should take him off the streets and give him a desk job!

Yeah,I always get a chuckle when I see several
different ships or aircraft depiciting one specific
ship/aircraft in either a TV show such as CSI or
even the excellent Air Crash Investigation.Seems the producers think viewers don't know, don't care or can't tell the difference from one to the next.

Just on all the CSI shows, sorry but I think all of them are a load of bollocks, one of the most utterly
unbelievable and glossy cop/investigation series I've ever seen, and don't get me started on that woeful Prisonbreak,Sopranos,NCIS,Law & Order
etc etc etc, there's enough actual crime going on in
real life, just switch on the 6pm news.Who needs it?

Similaities? Oh, come now. Miami Vice was a Don Johnson sitcom (but Nash Bridges was funnier). What's funny in CSI:Miami?

Even the History Channel makes errors. I remember once they were speaking of Queen Mary and were showing an aerial view of Normandie. I suppose they think no one will notice.......and I would guess most wouldn't see the difference.

Even?!?! Some programs are nice - but some are very superficial to say the least.

I agree. In Nash Bridges add Cheech Marin. CSI: Miami, funny? No way. Similarities, I was alluding to the production style.

Er, because it's NOT real.

Much of US TV and mvies are of course filmed in Holywood. If they need a ship, the Queen Mary is often the first choice. Even if they want an Art Deco dining room that's not even meant to be a ship, they often use the QM. The 'Aviator' used several of the QM's public rooms, for example.

Caruso is OK, but DJ is way cooler. And he smoked cigarettes on TV. You never see that anymore. I still have a pair of tortouise shell Wayfarers that he wore in the show and they are still cool. Ray Bans are always in style and bulbousbow, go ahead and wear them. maybe you can bring them back in vogue. I was in college when that show was on and we used to sit in the dorm and watch it on Friday night before we went out in our DJ garb.
