A new brand is born: Majestic America Line
20/06/2006
Ambassadors Cruise Group will combine American West Steamboat Co. and Delta Queen Steamboat Co. into one brand, Majestic America Line. The combined companies, led by president and coo David Giersdorf, will begin operating under the new name later this year.
Ambassadors Cruise Group is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ambassadors International, Inc., based in Newport Beach, Calif.

Majestic America Line’s fleet will consist of six U.S.-flag ships plying the coastal and inland waterways and rivers of America, including Alaska’s Inside Passage. The ships are American Queen, Empress of the North, Queen of the West, Mississippi Queen, Delta Queen and the newly acquired Executive Explorer.

In 2007, the new brand will offer more than 215 departures and call at 70 port cities and communities in 19 states.

Joe Ueberroth, president and ceo of Ambassadors International, said Majestic America Line will become synonymous with American river and coastal cruising.

Giersdorf called the new brand ‘a significant milestone’ and listed factors that should benefit the line including favorable demographic trends, the continued growth and popularity of cruising worldwide and consumer interest in exploring America’s scenery, history and culture.

She is very small, 25 cabins - 49 passengers. She used to be operated by Glacier Bay Cruises. See this old TP profile.

She is the largest and some say finest Mississippi riverboat ever built. She entered service in 1995 and IMO, quite beautiful.

More growth likely for Ambassadors group
22/6/2006
Ambassadors Cruise Group under president and coo David Giersdorf has moved fast. In the first half of 2006, the group snapped up American West Steamboat Co., Delta Queen Steamboat Co., Executive Explorer and the mortgage for the laid-up Columbia Queen in what is likely a first step to take over that vessel.
The fleet will unite under the Majestic America Line brand.

‘Our focus is to be the leader in cruising American waterways and coastlines,’ Giersdorf told Seatrade Insider. The new brand is just the beginning. ‘You will see a much more compelling communication of this product,’ he said. ‘We’re thinking less of the past and more about what’s the best way to offer this fleet to a new group of passengers.’

By fall, Majestic America Line will have brochures, a website and a cohesive marketing message. The company will target what Giersdorf called the ‘sizable market’ of mature, experienced travelers who are interested in exploring America after having traveled all over the world. ‘We’re looking for every opportunity to develop unique experiences for these guests,’ he added.

Without giving specific numbers, Giersdorf said both American West and Delta Queen have hefty past guest lists and prospect lists that are in ‘extremely good shape.’

Are more ships likely? ‘Majestic America Line is a name that gives us room to add more product and vessels, possibly,’ Giersdorf said. ‘There are other companies that could be more effective under the brand than as stand-alones. We believe there are opportunities out there and we will continue to explore them.’

He added that being a leader in the U.S.-flag coastal business doesn’t mean Ambassadors Cruise Group will limit itself to U.S.-flag cruising.
