In another forum I found following:

Marsans Groups has decided to sell Pullmantur Group (tour operator, airline and the cruising company), worth 300 million euros..right now,
Banesto Banking Group is being assigned to find partners to sell up to the 40% of the group, or the 100% of the company if there´s a good buyer. The
offer is restricted to a limited group of buyers. The objective of Pullmantur is continuing growing with their own concept and they consider they need cash to purchase new ships.

Nineth company in the world, Pullmantur has had a meteoric growth, until to table to get the 45% of the Spanish market, only in five years. It has a 300 million euros turnover and a staff of 2000 people. It offers all inclusive pacakages with its own airline and hotels. With it´s fleet, of six vessels Pullmantur is not able to cope with the growing demand. So it needs an investiment of 400 million euros to get two more ships for its routes.

At the beginning of 2006 they reject a RCCL bid, second biggest. However if the offer is right they could reconsider it. The main objective is
keeping their own operative image and structure and keeping the Spanish orientation and staff. Offer should be submitted at the end of July. Some
sources point some candidates..CVC, APAX partners, or Carlyle. The late one, has already purchased Iberostar for 900 million euros, in a disputed process with APAX, Bridgepoint, and VISTA. ..

The news continue...with other points not related to Pullmantur Cruises. So....

Thanks Willem for the news bit. This confirms that RCI has/had wanted to buyout Pullmantur. The biggest question is whether they would want the whole package or simply just the cruising division.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out. I personally think it will be easier to sell Pullmantur by breaking it up.

So, Carlyle is a potential buyer. Haven't they just bought Iberojet ? They want to take control of the whole spanish cruise market or what ?

Oh! This not sounds good for me! Maybe with new owners (specially RCCL) they could sell for scrap the SS Oceanic (or even the recently added Sky Wonder and the older Pacific). I hope that the brazilian's CVC have money to buy it, finnaly we could have a brazilian cruise company (ok, we had some but tooooo many years ago). I am almost sure that they don't have 400 milion euros, but i still have some hope! Imagine a year-round SS Oceanic at Brazil!!!

The Amazon river is one of the few places where ocean going vessels could do cruises staying in one country (without being at sea) - of course it is necessary to have the highest standards to protect the environment - but maybe this is a way to get aroud some SOLAS regulations......

Yes, it's true, but she would not have many places to visit down the river.

There are some - just enough to make a short cruise - seriously: The market is not (yet) strong enough - and of course it's not a good idea to do it with an old ship of her size. Neverhtless, I could imagine seeing bigger vessels on the amazon river somewhen - and why not ocean going ships. (which might be avaiable)

Yes, it could happen. But only when the caribean have more than 1000 ships over there! This is the only way for they create new itineraries...
