Maybe cruise lines will take note of this post.
If you could make up a cruise itinerary what would it be?
Here is my choice for a great cruise robably 14-16 days

START:
San Juan, PR
St.Thomas
Casteries
Isla Margarita
Devils Island
Rio de Janeriro
Sao Paulo
Porto Belo
END
Buenos Aires
Add about 5 at sea days for a total of 14.

Maybe one or two of the lesser frequented islands could also fit into the itinerary.
What do you think of this??

Add your itinerary, maybe the cruise lines would consider some of these,at least I hope they would??

Here's one:

1. Miami
2. Day at Sea
3. Samana Bay, D.R.
4. San Juan P.R.
5. St. Barthelemy
6. Day at Sea
7. Cococay
8. Miami

Good for any 7-night Royal Caribbean ship.

Southampton - New York berthing at a MANHATTAN pier - preferably with QM2.

A simple, 'classic', nice 12 to 14 day East med. cruise (NOT 'the whole' Med.) starting and ending in Venice with a 'full day' in most ports (inlcuding: Dubrovnik, Athens, Mykonos, Santorini, Istanbul etc.)

More 'crossings' from Europe via Iceland, Greenland ending in a port in the St. Lawrence seaway.(depending on how far the vessel can go)

A canary island cruise STARTING and ENDING at the canary islands.

My personal suggestion:
1. Miami (depart)
2. Day at sea
3. Day at sea
4. Day at sea
5. Day at sea
6. Day at sea
7. Day at sea
8. Miami (arrive)

I'm not fussed about Miami in particular, but it is a convenient place to fly to/from if one is starting in the UK.

The most intriguing itineraries I have seen for ages are those for Thomson Cruises aboard Calypso next year - Greece, Corinth Canal, Black sea and Albania - really interesting....

My dream cruise is on the QM2 departing from Brooklyn or Bayonne and sailing to Princess Cays. Oh wait -they already do that! Maybe they can add in HAL's island - Half Moon Cay. YEA!

A world cruise is probably too difficult - but a Southampton - New York - Southampton cruise without berthing in New York but just turning on the Hudson river would somehow be fun - reminds me of the Zeppelin itineraries.

I wonder whether this would actually make somehow sense - saving money by going slow, avoiding ports and just doing scenery cruising -e.g. in Alaska!

That sounds fantasic, only scenery cruising Alaska would be great. My ship of choise would be the Rotterdam class ore Zaandam class.

Greetings Ben.

Now we all know that the cruise lines make a 'some' money with shore excursions - and it is probably difficult to compensate that with what the passengers spend aboard while at sea - but avoiding the shopping malls in Alaska is not necessarily a disadvantage for me.

Something like that has BTW been done in the Antarctica when the first large ships went there.

What about a 7 nights Indian Ocean cruise :

Day 1: Réunion Island (France) (embarkation)
Day 2: Tamatave (Madagascar)
Day 3: Saint Mary Island (Madagascar)
Day 4: Diego Suarez (Madagascar)
Day 5: Alphonse Island (Seychelles)
Day 6: at sea
Day 7: Port-Louis (Mauritius)
Day 8: Réunion Island (France) (disembarkation)

Itinerary possible at 23/24knts. Tamatave,Diego Suarez and Alphonse Island would be half day calls, the other full day stays (because of the time required to reach the next port). Authorization of Seychelles government required for Alphonse, but I'm sure an agreement can be found if enough environmental guaranties are given.

A dream round-the-world itinerary, which does not even go all the way around the world (I've saved some ports for the next time) , and with some ports of call that are not even feasible at the moment.

Many many calls in this cruise. Many more than in a "standard" world cruise. It would take at least 5 or 6 months. Perhaps a bit long to find enough people to fill the ship.

I am not so sure - a more 'detailed' less 'rushed' world cruise might appeal to enough passengers to fill a 'small' luxury vessel.

WOW! Greybeards cruise!! Figure a weight gain of 1 pound/day(You do the metric conversion) and we did not see how many sea days. 6 months seems about right. Cost?? $ 75K/person estimated. On QM2 right??

I doubt if Greybeard would want to share his cruise with other people!

You forgot Dingwall & Lerwick, Greybeard. With such a grand itinerary I would make a stipulation that any Caribbean port of call was one that was never visited on a milk-round. Between the Seychelles and Red Rea, Salalah, Muscat, somewhere in the UAE, Bahrein, Kuwait & Kish Island are all worth visiting, Jeddah is also interesting. Haifa & Syria too in there, plus an around the Black Sea.

There are actually so many places on this earth that I long to visit or return to, that even if I chartered a personal cruise ship for a couple of years, I doubt I would manage them all I would start of hopping Africa, then the Arabian Peninsula, then round India, Malaysia, up through all countries to Korea, then down the Islands to Indonesia and on to Aus then NZ, followed by a circumnav of S America, in Galapagas, Falklands, S Georgia, Christmas Island... just too many to contemplate thinking about!
