Holiday Kreuzfahrten ceases operations
21/9/2006
Germany’s Holiday Kreuzfahrten, operators of Mona Lisa and Lili Marleen, has ceased operations and is filing for bankruptcy, Seatrade Insider has confirmed.
At Holiday’s hotline booking number, a message said operations have ceased with immediate effect. Company owner Herbert Fervers has reportedly written a letter to suppliers informing them of the circumstances.

Lambros Katsoufis, president of Kyma Ship Management, the owner of Mona Lisa, told Seatrade Insider that Kyma has been informed Holiday is closing shop. Katsoufis said Mona Lisa will conclude its voyage and disembark passengers at Warnemünde on Monday. German sources said Lili Marleen’s next cruise has been cancelled.

Today Lili Marleen is in Helsinki and Mona Lisa is sailing near Gothenburg en route to Oslo.

Fervers established Holiday Kreuzfahrten in 1986. It employs around 40 people with branches throughout Germany. Fervers opened his first travel agency in 1980 and secured his first full ship charter in 1987. Between 1999 and 2002 Holiday Kreuzfahrten chartered Royal Olympic Cruises’ Triton for three full winter seasons. Encouraged by the success, Fervers decided to look for another, larger ship to operate on a long-term base. He took a deck and engine charter of the 778-berth Mona Lisa for five years in 2002.

Holiday markets directly to German consumers, bypassing travel agencies and selling cruises at very competitive rates. In 2005 the company expanded its fleet by chartering the 800-passenger Ocean Countess, renamed Lili Marleen. During 2006 she has been operating weekly North European itineraries from Warnemünde.

Uh .. hope not. I have suggested the city of Gothenburg to buy her and use her as a floating hotel.

So who owns Lil Marlene if she is only chartered? And I wonder what Kyma is going to do with the Mona Lisa and where she will be laid up, they also own the Topaz currently under charter for the Peace Boat Organization.

In an German Internet Site stands, that both Ships will complete their actual Cruisings on September 24th and 25th and go to their final Destination Warnemünde to drop off their Passengers.

Then they will be brought to Greece by their Owners.

Does P&O still own MONA LISA. I remember when she was switched to Holiday Kreuzfahrten, P&O only chartered her out.

On the side note, the Majesty International Cruises logo reminds me of the Sitmar swan...
