Just heard on TV news that Holland America Line returns its European Head-Office to Rotterdam.
36 years ago (in 1971) they left, but within two months (according to Rotterdam's Mayor Ivo Opstelten), they will open the European Head-Office in a building next to Hotel New York.

Being one of the few native Angelenos, I am proud that Cunard is still a Southern California based company!

Why would you be proud of that????

It was bad enough when Cunard moved from LIC to MIA...now they're LAX??? talk about removing a company from its roots.

It is all about the Global economy . LAX by the way is an airport and Cunards and Princess Cruises current base is 30 miles north in Santa Clarita, California. I did have a winking face after my comment by the way.

Yes LAX is an airport - but when speaking in general terms, in the industry, we often refer to a specific city by its airport code....

Greetings from YVR.

I like Burbank airport. Its a lot nicer then LAX. As a Cunard fan I was horrified when Cunard was moved to CA but then again I was excited that Cunard would be so close.

I thought that Cunard was original a Brittich companny. Moving back to Liverpool (at least the European HQ) would be historic the right choice.

Greetings Ben.

In Spijkenisse (close to Rotterdam) you can find the office of HAL Human Resources.

Cunard has not been a British firm for many years and most of its ships of the last 30 plus years have not even been British registerred. I agree that it would be nice to have it based at least in Southampton but the size of the operation prohibits that. Since Cunard is currently a two ship operation it needed to join forces (combined reservations and buying power) w/another larger Carnival division to make economic sense. Princess was deemed the right sister line and that much larger division has been based in the L.A. area for decades-first in exclusive Century City and now suburban Santa Clarita.

It is amusing to me that when I called the Cunard US "800" number, it is first answered by incredibly British-accented female voices. But when you "press 1, 2 etc" the California natives take over..........

.........or properly accented types from Bangalore. See Friedman's "The World is Flat."

Ya never know!

It's more amusing that this topic's subject is HAL returning to Rotterdam. And that fore 90% of the replays is over Cunard.

Greetings Ben.

The chances are they are not California natives but transplants from other states or countries. Southern California has few native born residents.
