Celebrity orders another mainstream type BIG ship. See here link
Maybe they expect the Azamara division to be their upscale segment and the others will become more mainstream.

Surely it should be Totality or one of the cross-quarters - Beltaine, Samhain etc [don't know the other two].

Does anyone else think that Celebrity may move the Century to Azamara due to her size?

Possibly?

I was about to say that she's too big for an upscale operation of this type, until I remembered that she's not much bigger in gross tonnege to Oceania's two newbuilds (70K v 65K).

Great News indeed!!

Now I think it is getting time for Celebrity to announce some drawings and deckplans of the new class of ships. Celebrity Solstice´s maiden voyage is less than 18 months away....

Greetings,
YoShip.

I've read that there are rumours of Celebrity moving her to the Bermuda run - which is a lot more suitable than these 3 and 4 nighters out of Miami (even though I've been on one!!!)

There is another Solstice rendering floating around out there. If you go to the Simplon Postcard website and to the most recent NCL page, about halfway down is a card issued by Meyer Werft that shows various Meyer-built ships superimposed in the basin. One of them is clearly the Solstice (or a design itteration of it). I have no idea how old the card is, but it shows a design similar to the one in the recent Meyer Werft book, and not the goofy looking one with 2 funnels.

Sorry you don't like the 2 funnels, but this is what they are going to look like;

It is actually too bad they are building the different looking twin stacker, as the "challenger" class as it was originally called looks nice in this small rendering on the Meyer Werft Card on the upper right.

The twin funnel idea has long been dropped. It was an early study. The latest renderings show much similarity with the design in the Meyerwerft picture shown above.

Still I wonder when Celebrity shows us officially what they are planning....

Greetings,
YoShip.

When the began cutting steel in October they used this image to represent the ship:

It sure looks like the two funnel design. I am not sure why they would begin cutting steel with an idea that had been dropped.

Because:
- they didn´t want to show any details too early
- the final (single-)funnel design wasn´t completed
- somebody prepared the steel plate with an old template

Isn´t it surprising that the shown picture disappeared from Meyer´s website within a day or two after publication and replaced by one without the steel plate...

Believe me, it´s going to be single-funnel. But I´ll stand corrected and buy you a drink if/when we meet on board.

Greetings,
YoShip.

Very interesting considering all the promotional materials Celebrity is in the midst of producing (videos, renderings) clearly shows a ship with two funnels as do all the mechanical and technical drawings that the architects and class societies are using.

There are many unattratice elements of the design apart from just the two funnels. How about the weak bow--like something from Pride of America. A far cry from the sharp modern shape of the Century/Galaxy/Mercury class ships.

I really hope the Meyer Werft postcard rendition is correct--and the old image of a single funnel ship with a large "X" integrated into the balcony design. That was a fantastic looking ship befitting the Celebrity brand. Unfortunately, I believe most of the evidence points toward the frumpy two stacker.

hi there

i noticed another change concerning the size of these ships

orginally they said to be 117.000 tons,
then i read 118 and now they say it will be 122.000

are they still changing and thinking about the design while construction has been underway???

anyone knows?

regards
b. Joe

The latest brochure of Meyer Werft also shows Solstice´s profile with a single funnel.

(in German):
Meyer Brochure

This publications is rather new as you can see the Disney newbuildings and the Solstice-ships being regarded as 122.000gt.

Greetings,
YoShip.

This gives me great hope! Maybe the hideous two-funnel design is not correct. Come on Celebrity, lets see some official images, deck plans, and promotional materials.

It looks just the same with a funnel chopped off, maybe just got lost with the image?
