Apparently the SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS will be joining the Pullmantur Cruises fleet next year. See their website here.

It's also interesting to find 'Ocean Dream' with Pulmantur - I missed that somehow.

And they have some vintage aircraft too - it's a long time that I have been flying with a Boeing 747-200.

Yes, isn't P&O Australia under the Carnival umbrella? Curious that they are selling the PACIFIC STAR to Pullmantur, rather than Iberojet.

PACIFIC STAR was sold to Pullmantur a while ago. We commented on it at CT a fair bit.

Basically it proved that Carnival Corp. will sell a ship to a competitor, contrary to what some adamantly thought to be true.

I also thought EMPRESS was to be called BLUE MOON. What happened to that?

It seems there's been a change of heart re MOON EMPRESS. By coincidence, I was looking at the itineraries of "MOON EMPRESS" on Pullmantur's website yesterday morning and when I checked back again last night, it had been amended to "EMPRESS".

Thank goodness!

It's interesting think to think of all the history that the Pullmantur fleet comprises.

OCEANIC - Home Lines flagship, one of a kind.

OCEAN DREAM - first new ship for Carnival Cruise Lines (the TROPICALE), one of a kind.

ZENITH - First new design (along with HORIZON) for Celebrity Cruises

HOLIDAY DREAM - Newbuild for Hapag Lloyd using a beloved name backed by tradition, the EUROPA, one of a kind.

EMPRESS - First newbuild for Admiral Cruises, to be named FUTURE SEAS but taken over by Royal Caribbean during the building process and renamed NORDIC EMPRESS. One of a kind.

SKY WONDER - First and last modern day newbuild for Sitmar Cruises, and I think the last passenger steamship ever built. Sitmar's next newbuild, FAIR MAJESTY was swallowed up by Princess Cruises (along with all of Sitmar) before she ever made her debut and renamed STAR PRINCESS. One of a kind.

SOVEREIGN - Brand new design for Royal Caribbean that was a trend setter for modern day ship building. Had the first multi-story atrium with glass elevators.

As you can see, Pullmantur offers a very diverse fleet. It represents the struggles and triumphs of 7 very different cruise lines, now all joined together in one rather quirky fleet.

Yes, PACIFIC does appear to be absent. I don't know what is happening to her.

I actually forgot all about PACIFIC. She makes the Pullmantur fleet even more diverse, being the original Love Boat with Princess Cruises.

NO! My beloved Sovereign of the Seas going away. 5 sailings on her and my most memorable of all, the cruise that forever got me hooked. I sailed first on Song of America, then Sovereign. I hope it has nothing to do with me. I hope my Enchantment and Mariner will stay! Who will replace Sovereign from Port Canaveral? Which ship will replace Mariner? This is an important port and home port to 2 RCI ships that are both scheduled to leave.

I have read that she has been chartered "permanently" by CVC -- knowing that the ship has been for sale, I wonder if they are going to purchase PACIFIC?

Let's not forget that she will not be scrapped. I heard that many people who cruise with Pullmantur actually survived the cruise - maybe these ship transfers are an opportunity for some to reach out a bit and try a new cruise line.

PACIFIC passed through the Straits of Gibraltar a couple of days ago from Valencia bound for Las Palmas (where she arrived today) and onwards to Brazil where she will sail for CVT, her operator for the last couple of years.

Her owners are still listed as Pullmantur, so she is presumably only on charter.

Interesting livery. Looks like keepong the name Sovereign as is the Empress. Just dropping the "of the Seas."

It also appears Royal Caribbean is no longer concerned with their trademark Viking Crown lounge on the funnel. It was left on SONG OR AMERICA and it will remain on SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS as well.

Yet SUN VIKING also kept its Viking Crown Lounge!

The removal of the facility from SONG OF NORWAY and NORDIC PRINCE would probably not have been so difficult as it was not a complete wraparound. For SOA and SS, a completely new stack would probably have been required.

Are they really going to paint the top half of the funnel blue and put the logo above the Viking Crown Lounge? That will look really odd.

Also, they really need a better naming system for their ships. I thought with RCI's buyout their brand managers would bring some consistency and unity to Pullmantur.
