FYI Royal Caribbean's new slogan will be "The Nation of Why Not". I just watched a presentation on it and it's an interesting campaign. It definitely continues on the theme of "Get Out There" with all the interesting innovations and activities you can experience on a Royal Caribbean cruise.

A website will be up and running soon.

This is indeed interesting. For so long, "Get Out There," has stuck to RCI. I wonder if RCI will now be marketing their ships as destinations rather than riding jetskies and snorkeling in the Caribbean.

It's an interesting slogan. At the moment the "nation" metaphor is lost on me but I will reserve judgment until I see the whole campaign. RCI advertising has traditionally been very good and in particular has done a great job of positioning RCI as not just an "ordinary" cruise but something rather special.

I will say I like Celebrity's new slogan "starring you" which ties in very nicely with the Celebrity name. The previous advertising with "a true departure" was very good but I didn't like the slogan - I think I would have chosen "be treated famously" which was a phrase that was used in the ads but wasn't the main tagline. "Starring you" is more along those lines.

hi there,

slogans interesting or not are imho marketing tools

the people who are caught by a slogan are
to me quiet simplistic and stupid

somebody told me: yes, we can
sounds pretty stupid to me as well

but it seems most people (wherever in the world)
are only able to remember one line

so my slogan will be:

bon voyage!

Joe

8. The King of Beers
9. It keeps going, and going, and going...
10. They're Grrrrrrreeeat!
11. Plop, plop, fizz, fizz
12. Have it Your way
13. That frosty mug sensation
14. You're in Good Hands with...
15. Reach out, reach out and touch someone

Would be interesting to see the campaign. I just inked a new campaign for my company with a new agency and the trend seems to be quirky and odd rather than straight forward (ie: make your campaign stand out for whatever reason and have it work on multiple platforms: internet, TV, radio). As all big companies do tons of focus work on these big new launches I am sure it resonated with the core customer. Looking forward to it.

Americans see on the average over 10,000 commercials a year. You probably dont remember any of the slogans or marketing campaigns I listed because you live abroad, but I would venture to say that most middle-aged Americans on this board could name about 1/2 of the advertising slogans I mentioned above. And no, I didnt know them all by heart. I pulled them off of a website that listed some of the most popular or succesful marketing slogans from the last 50+ years.

You said "the people who are caught by a slogan are to me quiet simplistic and stupid". Thats a pretty broad statement. Corporations spend millions of dollars a year in advertising and a catchy slogan can be pretty important in what a consumer remembers, and chooses, when they are out shopping or eating.

I can identify 29 out of the 30. There is also the classic 'Getting there is half the fun' which was used before I was born and as I recall used recently but not by Cunard. Great list!!

I could be wrong, but I don't think this is a new slogan for Celebrity. I seem to recall this being used a number of years ago as well...am I incorrect or thinking of a similar campaign?

hi there dmwnc1,

you are absolutely right ofcourse

may-be a little off topic, but to me most people are
stupid, so the ones taken away by a slogan are
not that special anyway

Because I work with a human services company dedicated to helping people in need, my opinion of 'most people' is of course different. Working alongside adults and children with varying degrees of mental retardation and brain injuries really makes one less cynical about the rest of the worlds population. I count eveyone I meet a blessing, and an opportunity to learn from.

Just saw the campaign, interesting. To me, it downplays the ship and plays up the activities. I don't think its terribly memorable nor do I think there is an instant connection with the line and cruising. Good timing with the election though...

I am not a "pony-tail head" marketing guru but I think this new slogan is bizarre.

When I first saw it, I thought it was something to do with Barack Obama and "Yes - We Can." Maybe it is the word "nation", but I just don't get it.

Surely the catch phrase slogan should capture in a few words the essence of the organisation and its mission. People cruise to escape, discover, relax, try new things, luxuriate. This new slogan catches none of this.... I'd ask for my money back from the pony-tail heads!!!

Brad

Just finished watching the video clip. I like how RCI is promoting the activities and atmosphere onboard, but I am not sure about the theme of the promotion.
