One has to seriously question whether Star will survive much longer at least in its current format.
An operation like Carnival might do quite well if they recruited the relevant crew and put in some decent tonnage. I know they have Costa there but I have never seen the logic in an Italian product cruising out of China for Chinese although they do now sell it to all, one would have thought a more US style might work better ? But then I am not from there and don't know but it is a HUGE untapped market that you would think would be getting some very serious focus especially as Star is not doing well at all.

You've never heard of Marco Polo, Mike? Pasta, noodles, it's all the same. Sort of like Ciao Chow.

Also, it seems the Chinese quite like the idea of "Italian." I have no idea if they like the reality of "Italian" but like Americans many of them apparently at least find the idea appealing.

Sounds a little like what they did to Oriana (1). Many in China seem to like the idea of over-the-top classical architecture w/lots of gold paint (leaf not required) and poorly scaled Corinthian columns.
